PLAYA DEL CARMEN, México - As the PGA TOUR prepares to return to Mexico for another edition of the Mayakoba Golf Classic, enrollment for the Open Qualifying Tournament is now underway.

Four spots in the field of 132 players will be up for grabs when the Open Qualifying Tournament is conducted Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Playa del Carmen.

One of a Kind Martial Arts Event in Playa del Carmen was a True Success.

The event will be something that will be talked about in Playa del Carmen, and the Riviera Maya, until next year when it returns. An exhibition was performed with some of the most influential masters in Martial Arts in Mexico with 16 states participating in the event as well an international seminar that was presented by the president of the Mexican Aikido Federation. The event was held in honor of one of the most memorable participants in the history of Martial Arts in Mexico: Shihan Miguel Moreno Segura, and was really incredible to watch. Interplaya to play the Hurricanes tonight in Playa del Carmen.

On more then one occasion we have been asked for the Interplaya soccer schedule, but as many things are in Playa del Carmen, it is easier said then done. But thank you to the perseverance of our friend John Bekas we at least now have the schedule for tonight’s game. So come on out and make some noise and support our local team!

The second annual International Beach Soccer Tournament will be held at Mamita's Beach in Playa del Carmen.

Sixteen teams from all over the Riviera Maya will come to play this coming weekend to see who will take home the coveted first place ranking. There will be fun, music, food and drink, as well as enough soccer to fill any sports enthusiasts needs. Q: As the course designer of El Camaleón, a PGA TOUR professional and a businessman, how would you rate the inaugural Mayakoba Golf Classic?

Greg Norman: I think it was a tremendous success, thanks mainly to the dedication and leadership of OHL. Mayakoba is one of the finest luxury resorts in the world and, due to OHL's vision, we are able to turn it into a first-class sporting venue for one week of the year. Everything on the property received rave reviews-especially from the players and the PGA TOUR-and the credit for that goes to OHL and Mayakoba. We're fortunate to partner with them on such an historic venture as Mexico's first-ever TOUR event. Everyone involved is looking forward to doing it again in 2008-and making it even more perfect.

The annual fishing tournaments in Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen kick off this coming weekend.

Fred Funk Wins México's First PGA Tour Event at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, México (AP) - Fred Funk won one for the old guys Sunday. Playing with an achy back befitting his senior status, the 50-year-old Funk won the Mayakoba Golf Classic on the second hole of a playoff with Jose Coceres to became only the second man to win a PGA Tour event after winning on the Champions Tour.

"I think I validated how good the players are on the Champions Tour," Funk said. "Even though you are 50 or 51 through 55... age doesn't really mean anything. I just want to see how long I can last."

The Mayakoba PGA Tour officially started today marking the first PGA event to come to Mexico and the Riviera Maya.
