Seventies R&B funk band, Tower of Power, rocked Mamita's Beach in Playa del Carmen.

Although they have obviously gone through a few personnel changes in the past 40 years, Tower of Power put on quite a show at the Fifth Annual Rivera Maya Jazz Festival. With 10 members taking the stage the group got the crowd funking and grooving over the 2 hour set. The horn section got down, and the lead vocalist was a true showman. Tower of Power definitely was the highlight of the festival for those of us that like to shake our groove thangs! Check out the photo gallery below.

The Fifth Annual Riviera Maya Jazz Festival Kicks Off November 29^th, 2007!

From local favorite Aguamala, to the master of bass guitar, Marcus Miller, to long time Funk Jazz favorite Tower of Power, the Fifth Annual Riviera Maya Jazz Festival is sure to be a hit! Meet Ayari Gonzalez Torres; psychologist, artist,mother, and entrepreneur.

Ayari, meaning heart in the Pre-Hispanic language of Huichol, moved to Playa del Carmen from D.F. 4 years ago. Ayari, and her husband Ronnie, decided that they wanted a quieter less stressful environment to raise their then 1 year old son Nicholas, and Playa del Carmen was a perfect fit.

La Semana Santanera in Playa del Carmen.

Kicking off on March 31st local club, La Santanera, will be hosting international DJ’s and performers through out the week to celebrate Semana Santa ending the week’s celebrations with a DJ extravaganza on Easter night. With amazing resident DJ’s , Portuguese imports, The Greenskeepers from Chicago, and Sanchez Dub there will certainly be something for everyone to enjoy and groove to. Javier Batiz to play five shows in Playa del Carmen.

Javier Batiz was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico, and still resides in his childhood home. Even though he has been in the music business for decades, in his early sixites, he can still rock the house. Known as the "Godfather of Mexican Rock" he has played with the likes of Carlos Santana, as well as many other well-known muscians throughout his illustrious career. He will be playing five shows starting tomorrow in Playa del Carmen. For location and show times please read more below.

Paris Delane rocked the house at the Jam Session at his fourth and final show before heading back home to Chicago.

Joined on stage by various local and visitng musicians, Paris Delane played to a happy crowd. People had their dancing shoes on and boogied down until the wee hours enjoying the rare treat of great R & B in Playa del Carmen. The four shows were targeted at raising money for local charity, Angel Notion, and the concerts helped work towards the goal of aiding 6 critically ill children in our community. So not only did we get to enjoy incredible music, but all proceeds will go to helping young children suffering from heart disease. Paris Delane played 3 shows this past weekend in Playa del Carmen, and they were fantastic!

Chicago based musician, Paris Delane, came down to play in Playa del Carmen for a handful of concerts designed to benefit local charity, Angel Notion. With his laid back style, amiable attitude, and infectious grooves he played to a happy crowd this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Hotel El Faro in Playa del Carmen. Missed the shows? Don’t worry he has added one more before he heads back to Chicago on Wednesday……

Angel Notion will be hosting two bands visiting from the United States this weekend.

Paris Delane and Paul deLay will be playing three differnet shows this weekend right here in Playa del Carmen. So if you like live music, dancing in the streets, and supporting the community; come out and join the fun!
