Tulum Open Public Library PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 March 2005

Yes, it is true, a public library has opened in Tulum, much to the delight of book lovers in our community!

A brand new building was built with a public library specifically in mind, and they opened their doors on January 3rd, 2005. They have an incredible 5,000 books to choose from, but are in need of more! There are two floors that are split between English and Spanish, and they will be installing 6 internet ready computers for public use as well. So if you are a book enthusiast, and have books you would like to donate, or would like to donate your time to a reading hour for children, the Tulum library is in need of support from the community.

La Biblioteca Publica, in Tulum, is located just 3 short blocks offf of Highway 307 in the poblado of Tulum, just take the 5th right after the road to Coba (you will see the Cenote Dive Center on the corner), go 3 blocks, and you will see it on your right hand side. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM until 9:00 PM, and on Saturday they are open from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. It is a fully air conditioned facility, and they have monthy dates that are designated to story hours for children.

In March they will have reading hours on the 16th, 17th, and 18th, and there are two sessions per day, 10:00 AM -11:00 AM and 4:00 -5:00 PM. All that is needed for a library card are two photos, and proof of address, and books can be checked out for 6 days at a time. So if you have books to donate, time to share, or if you would like to peruse the shelves, stop on by for a visit!
