Tequila, Agave, Jalisco, and Smooth Operating in the Mexican Tradition

...so you are in Mexico and the first thing that comes to your mind is Tacos, Mariachi, Cerveza, Burritos and of course Tequila.

Tequila is a product manufactured in the state of Jalisco, in the town of Tequila.

Although “Tequilas” are also being manufactured in Africa, Japan and the US, the only product that can bear the Tequila name according to recent international laws are that which is manufactured in Jalisco, Mexico.

Tequila comes from the distilling of cooked Agave. Agave is a plant that takes more than 15 years to fully develop. This means that the Agave being planted today will be available for production after 2019!

Cooked Agave is sent through a chopping, extracting, distilling and storing process that will make the Tequila acquire unique flavors, aromas and colors. There are many kinds of Tequilas; all of which require different processing techniques as well as aging and storing.

White Tequila has become one of the most common products of Mexican roots. It is inexpensive compared to the more high end Reposados and Limitados. The latter can reach over $100 usd per bottle.

Tequila is gulped by the shots and put into Margaritas. By the way, have you ever seen a Mexican drink a margarita? We don’t do it! Margaritas are not from Mexico!

Anyway, Tequila, like any other fine spirit, is best savored smoothly. Customers should sip it as they would do with cognac or whiskey; enjoying the textures, aromas and flavors this wonderful product brings.

Trying different qualities and brands (hopefully not on the same evening) will lead you to an outstanding world of flavors; an experience that is worth the time.

Try also pairing Tequila with meals and other drinks, Tequila is terrific with appetizers, coffee and beer. You will find new flavors as you taste it.

So while you visit Mexico, try different brands and qualities of Tequilas; sip them, enjoy them, and let us know which one you like best!
