We jumped in the car and left Playa del Carmen at 7am sharp. With 3 kids, a wife, and their friends in the car, it was a trip destined for the books. Little did I know. The plan was simple - Go see a few Mayan Ruins and jump in something called a Cenote (See-Note-Tay) and back in time for an early dinner. Little did I know.

What is a Cenote?

It is a magical experience – a refreshing, cool water dip and so much more…….

The Yucatan peninsula was originally under the ocean and the region's limestone foundation is fossilized coral beds and ocean floor. There are no above ground rivers in this area, all of the ground water sinks through the porous limestone and travels to the sea in underground rivers. Parts of the limestone weakened over time and collapsed leaving sinkholes filled with water - a cenote.

Although “Tequilas” are also being manufactured in Africa, Japan and the US, the only product that can bear the Tequila name according to recent international laws are that which is manufactured in Jalisco, Mexico.

Do you have Insurance when driving in Mexico? Get the Facts!

When renting a vehicle in Mexico please be a ware of that U.S. Insurance companies do not make direct payment for damages outside the country.

By Mexican law, if your rental vehicle is lost or damaged, you will be required to make full payment of all expenses involved, before you leave Cozumel. If you refuse the local insurance coverage, your costs will have to be paid out of pocket before you leave the country.

Learn the new rules

As of 26 March 2003 - Given the new security environment, Washington will no longer
allow Consular Agents to issue transportation letters.

Passengers who lose their documents of identification or proof of U.S. citizenship should contact their airline carrier about being re-boarded for return to the US. Typically, if you are
traveling on a round trip ticket and you are accompanied by someone who does have
ID, who can verify your identity & your U.S. citizenship, most airlines will re-board their own passengers.
