Pachuca defeats the Playa del Carmen 2 - 0 in the biggest Playoff Match in PDC History.

The Junior team from Pachuca in central mexico came to Playa and played a stellar and inspired game against a formidable Playa del Carmen squad.

The Division II Soccer Playoff Match was held at Playa Stadium today - Thursday - in front of a raucous and an enthusiastic capacity crowd.

On the pitch, drums were beating and horns blasting the sounds of that unique ear candy familiar to those who enjoy the game.

"It is a Mayan futbol craze. I mean cars packed the streets and beer was everywhere." said Jorge Leal, a spectator who doubled as a drum major.

The crowd had fun and really appreciated the spectacle as their team did their best to overcome a very talented Pachuca team.

"Pachuca is a top tier team so to go toe to toe with them shows our team has the righ stuff." said Catalino Martin, President of the Playa del Carmen Club.

Spectators from local neighborhoods attended along with folks visiting from Canada, German, Holland, Austria, and Italy. "Futbol is a universal language" said one spectator who was covered in a sombero and a liquid beverage that appeared to be cerveza - aka beer.

"Our team had heart, If we put our effort and concentration into playing to our potential, to be the best that we can be, I don't care what the scoreboard says at the end of the game, in my book we're gonna be winners." Head Coach Chi Cho said with pride.

The team finished in 17th place out of 58 teams in their first season of Division II play.

"It's amazing, we did fantastic. We have just served notice to futbol in Mexico - We're in the Ya, the Ply-Ya, and we are coming to play on the pitch " said an unamed crazed hooligan formerly from England and now a Ply-Ya resident.
