Boca Paila is King! Boca Paila is one of the best flat fisheries in the world, which is why it has a world wide reputation for quality fishing and service. Boca Paila is inside the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, established in 1986 near Tulum. On arrival to the lodge there is a short walk to the jetty where you will start your fishing excursion. You will find the view of the vast lagoon system breath taking. Boca Paila offers quality 16 foot open skiffs to fish from, powered by 40 horsepower outboards. These brackish teritile waters offer the opportunities of the grand slam, which is landing a permit, bonefish, and tarpon in the same day. There are not many places in the world that can offer you this opportunity; it is one of fishing’s great feats. There are some fish which I have not mentioned yet which you can also find there: snook, jack craevalle, barracuda, cubera snapper, and the blue runner. Here are some of the Boca Paila records which will get your heart rate up:Tarpon 80lb spin fishing, on the fly 120lb, permit 24lb spin fishing, on the fly 40lb, Snook on the fly 16lb, and bonefish on the fly 8lb. pretty impressive, I’m sure you will agree. Many famous people have fished at Boca Paila, and they offer quality accommodations and a restaurant for the traveling angler. The lodge manager is, Gualberto Chico Caamel, who you will find to be a very helpful and knowledgeable man and will do his very best to help you. I have fished Boca Paila on two occasions and both trips were very successful I caught many bonefish , so both days were great. I was spin fishing on a light line. I believe the fly fisherman has the advantage here because the fly enters the water with less disturbance so does not spook the big old wise fish so easily. There are great opportunities here for everyone, even the beginner, so I would highly recommended a visit. Also don’t forget if you need any fishing equipment or more information on fishing hotspots call in and see me in my fishing store: Caribbean Fishing is located on 10th Avenue between 14th and 16thStreet. Hope to see you there! Until next time: Tight Lines. Tony Cox email: This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it Comments (0)
