Last night the PMN team along with family and friends descended upon the Sun ’n’ Sand for a burger feast. We were indulged with BBQ burgers, French fries, barbequed mashed potatoes (a real taste sensation), and countless beverages of horchata, tamarindo, and various sodas all on the house! After we were thoroughly stuffed, owner Juan Enrique Pena shared a delicious cake with our crew. A truly gracious host, Juan Enrique gave his wife and partner credit for her excellent work and cooking. Originally from Monterrey, Juan and his family have been in Playa Del Carmen for the past 3 years, and they opened the Sun ‘n’ Sand in February 2002.

Catering to workers in the hotel zone with their take out menu, they have always had a strong community following. When they were nominated for the best of the best, Juan, not only a master at creating huge and inexpensive burgers, showed his marketing skills as well. He promoted our contest on his takeout menu and his loyal followers made him the reigning king of burgers! Using only the freshest ingredients available, the Sun ‘n’ Sand has earned its title of burger champion of the Riviera Maya!
