Try out some great wines and restaurants in Playa del Carmen!
When
one thinks of Mexico images of beautiful beaches, sparkling blue water, warm
weather, and relaxation come to mind along with margaritas and an ice cold
bucket of Corona, but wine? Not often do people affiliate Mexico with quality
wine, and wine tasting. However, there are some great national wines as well as
some exquisite choices from our neighbors to the south in Chile and Argentina
as well as Italy.
Playa del Carmen is quite a bit different then other parts of Mexico in that there
are major South America and European influences here specifically Argentina and
Italy; both countries that are known for their wine. With an influx of
foreigners from all over the globe, who not only visit here, but also live here
year round, comes an influx of all different types of food served in area
restaurants and cafes.
From casual pizza houses, to high end Argentinean
Grills, to French Bistros, Playa del Carmen brings a unique variety of both
food and wine to the table. You can choose from cellars that hold limited
vintages to accompany your roasted duck, wine flights to try with tasty tapas,
or a sweet dessert wine to sip with a delectable dessert. Either way, there is something for every wine
lover from the connoisseur to the newly minted. You can even buy some wines
here that may not be available in other parts of the world, and take them back
with you to enjoy at home. So if you are over tequila and beer try some
delicious wines that will make your taste buds dance. Look below for a variety
of restaurants and cellars that you can check out when, and if, you so desire.

The prices vary, and the wines that were included in the article were the "Top 5" so they are their premium wines and run pretty expensive, however they all offer house wines that run by the glass and are more reasonable. A couple of places that have great wine by the glass that are not included in this article are: The Dirty Martini, Fusion, and a new restaurant; Los Danzantes. Los Danzantes actually has a really nice Mexican blend that is made just for them and it runs $70.00 pesos per glass, The Dirty Martin has an excellent Shiraz for $75.00 pesos per glass, and Fusion has a nice Cabernet for $80.00. I an a new wine lover so not an expert just yet!!!
