Description
The Frugal Gourmet: EL ASADOR DE MANOLO Manolo is well known in the booming Restaurant industry of Playa Del Carmen. He launched “Buenos Aires” as well as “Sur” the renowned steak house restaurant on Quinta Avenida. He recently opened El ASADOR DE MANOLO, on 10th Ave between 24 y 26 Street. El ASADOR Specializes in “Parilla Argentina” which is an Argentinean Grill serving fine cuts of meat, with the authentic chimichurry sauce; a medley of spices where parsley, rosemary, oregano and the chef’s secret ingredient marinate in extra virgin olive oil. As soon as the restaurant featured its home cooking Lunch special “comida casera”, and advertised its menu on the board on the sidewalk at an astonishing 45.00 Pesos the Frugal Gourmet’s car came to a screeching halt. The sign read: “Sopa del Dia, Cannellones/Brochettas, agua de frutas - This lunch menu is served from 1:00 to 5:00PM! By hook or by crook it was time to eat! What a warm welcome we received at EL ASADOR from Manolo (aka El Commandante), and his loyal crew; Felipe & Armando (aka El Cardinale), a passionate man full of “joie de Vivre”. I sat at the outdoor terrace where the quaint décor of muted colors is inviting, and relaxing, while Armando explained that the restaurant is based on a fusion of Argentinean and Italian cuisine where time and love are the major ingredients.
Their Cannelloni is a kind of crepe wrapped around spinach filling, and covered by a mild tomato and onion sauce. It was good, but pale in comparison to the exquisite lasagna which is stuffed with vegetables and smothered in a flavorful tomato sauce topped with melted cheese. Yummy! Succulent! A delight! The menu at EL ASADOR de Manolo offers a choice of entrees and varies daily. Excellent and friendly service with good food at a great price! Good Luck to you Manolo!

A pitcher of mango “agua de fruta” was brought to my table, a nice start. The chicken and rice soup served with minced vegetables had a fresh and delicate tang to it. So far so good.
From the Frugal Gourmet: Buen Provocho & hasta luego!
