Trendy, upscale lounge serves gourmet fare, and high end cocktails.
Diablito's Cha Cha Cha is located in the coveted hot spot of
the ever expanding 12th
Street. From 10th Avenue to the beach, 12th Street
has become party central in Playa del Carmen. Starting off closer to 10th
with DJ’s, Santanera, Bali, and soon to be Coco Bongo, it continues past
Mosquito Blue and the Glass Bar down to the beach........
Our Mystery Gourmet gives us the low down on Popeye's Fish 'n'Chips.
When you think of all the wonderful food to be sampled in
Playa del Carmen, Fish n’ Chips doesn’t immediately come to mind. Yet, tucked
away in the north end, Popeye’s, another endeavor from the wildly successful
Grupo La Parilla, is putting out some fine fried fare. For some time now, Long
Suffering Spouse and I have had a hankering for some good traditional, batter
dipped, fried fish. After reading several nice comments about Popeye’s, we
decided to see for ourselves.
In England the name George and Dragon is often used as names for pubs, inns, and the like to reflect the history of their long time legendary hero.
We now have our very own George and Dragon Pub right here in Playa del Carmen. This past Saturday was their grand opening and it was a definite success.
Come check out the newest addition to the northern part of 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen. La Quinta Tostada fills a niche that has yet to be filled.
La Quinta Tostada is a new bistro in Playa del Carmen that is great to hook up with friends to watch some soccer, nibble on botanas or to enjoy one of their signature drinks the size of your head. Three friends, who had met working at Sushi Itto, decided to bring different flavors and tastes of Mexico to open up their own bar and eatery.
A little over a year ago, a group of five friends from New York fell in love with Playa del Carmen. When the opportunity presented itself to open a business here, they jumped on it and bought the Hotel Santa Barbara on Calle 4. While busy working from the ground up to restore this little jewel to its original charm, they often dined at a little taco shop on 12th street that served amazing food, and thus discovered the chef-owner, Alejandro Azcue....
Paul Brans, originally from Canada, moved here to Playa del Carmen a little over a year ago, from London, England, where he had lived for the past 20 years. Paul first came to Playa del Carmen, on a fluke, and like so many of us fell in love with the area. He was on his way to Venezuela with a group of friends for a South American holiday, when a civil war broke out, and a friend recommended Playa del Carmen instead. So he traded in dreary London weather, for warm Caribbean nights, and loves the change......
Chico Latino, in Playa del Carmen, will be celebrating their first year of successful business on Wednesday, April 20th. They will be having happy hour all day; you will receive a free cocktail with any food order, and who knows? Maybe some cute Superior girls will show up too! So come and check it out, Steffano, Viviana, Manuela, and Claudio would love to see you there!
Finally a cool little café and coffee shop in Phase II!
One major complaint I hear, from friends who live in Playacar, is the lack of services that are close by, but complain no more, Café del Soul has arrived. With fresh baked goods, delicious coffee, hearty sandwiches, salads, and more, Café del Soul will be sure to create a faithful following in no time. Owners Zen and Georgina have been vacationing here for the past few years, from Toronto Canada, and just last year bought an investment property in Playacar.....
Dive Shop Turned Tapas and Wine Bar? Only in Playa del Carmen!
Known locally as Pepe Loco, Pepe Esteban came from Mexico City 11 years ago. All he knew was diving, and that is all he did, so it seemed appropriate that he open a dive shop. So Playa Dive Center came to fruition, but all good things come to an end to make way for better things, and Pepe decided to try his hand at the restaurant business.
The Freshest Home Made Pasta in Playa del Carmen!(100% Natural too)
He’s back!!! ………..After one too many road side stands, Typhoid, Salmonella, and Parasites, The Frugal Gourmet is alive and well…………………….
While visiting my favorite Italian hotel, I could not help but look at a bright yellow flyer saying PASTA LUEGO… Hum…Sounds good. I put on my detective hat and decided that it was time for an investigation. Would you believe the flyer had a map? I threw my wife and aunt into the car and off we went.....
