Description
Carmen, originally from Madrid, Spain, left her home land nearly 20 years ago traveling throughout the United States , Central America, and Mexico. She landed in Playa del Carmen over 12 years ago, and has been an active community member ever since she arrived.
Working at various local restaurants and bars she found a good business fit when she started to manage Bourbon Street, a local live music venue, located right in the heart of Playa del Carmen. She eventually became a partner and helped it grow into a successful and popular spot and was an owner/operator there for 6 years. She then decided o move onto her next business venture; La Carmela.
Opened in December of 2007; La Carmela is a fun and cozy
home-style restaurant with fresh food at amazingly affordable prices. Carmen
offers a set daily menu (Comida Corrida) as well as other homemade specialties.
Try the perfectly cooked beef milanesa, which comes with salad and rice ($60.00
Pesos), the Cuban Torta, which is certainly enough to share with two people
($40.00 pesos), or her fresh cream of vegetable soup that comes steaming hot to
the table.
La Carmela is located on 4th Street between 25th and 30th Avenues (formerly known as Bloody Chicas) and they are open daily starting with breakfast at 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM. For more information or to ask what is on the daily menu call: 984-803-4881 Comments (1)

Meet Carmen Moraleda- owner and operator of La Carmela
Restaurant in Playa del Carmen.
While she waits on her liquor
license to come through next month enjoy the papaya-orange juice, or the agua
de Jamaica, and you will certainly quench your thirst. With affordable prices,
fresh meats and produce, and Carmen buzzing around in the kitchen, La Carmela
is certainly a place worth trying.
