Johnny Rockets in Playa del Carmen Good Golly Miss Molly

Burgers, Shakes, and Elvis Presley – in Playa del Carmen? You betcha!!!!

Good Golly Miss Molly!

By J.P. the Writer

Johnny Rockets has come to Playa del Carmen and is already one of the most popular restaurants to eat at the Paseo del Carmen on the South side of town.

I’ve eaten there twice already and was impressed both times. The manager, Juan Jose Loa, made me feel right at home and the servers have happy smiles.

The restaurant’s 40’s - 50’s atmosphere is always comfortable and my mouth is just begging me for some food from the restaurant as I write this review...

You may have been to the Johnny Rockets in Cancun or Texas or Australia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and a host of other countries just so you can see how good (and fattening) American food really is.

But this one, is cozy, quaint, and just he right size for our lovely trendly hipster town.

Now, Johnny Rockets was founded on the belief that everyone deserves a place where they can escape today's complicated world and experience the food, fun and friendliness reminiscent of feel-good Americana.

On June 6, 1986, the first Johnny Rockets opened on trendy Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, offering its guests fast, friendly service, a simple menu and reasonable prices.

Every Johnny Rockets restaurant boasts great-tasting food from a menu of All-American nostalgic favorites including juicy hamburgers, hand-dipped shakes and malts and freshly-baked apple pie.

Guests also enjoy an All-American diner look and feel, servers who know the secret behind getting ketchup out of the bottle, tabletop jukeboxes that belt out tunes for a peso and authentic décor.

Johnny Rockets has continued to grow to ensure people everywhere can get their All-American favorites served with a smile. That's the Johnny Rockets experience. – JohnnyRockets.com

The atmosphere in Johnny Rockets is so neat. Each table has a tiny juke box with about 200 different songs you can play.

Whenever “I Will Survive” comes on, all the staff members get up and dance to it. This shows how laid back the atmosphere is.

The restaurant that is in the Paseo del Carmen Plaza is located indoors with a nice patio of outdoor seating as well.

Last time we ate, we sat at a booth and the time before we sat on the stools and off the counter. The only choice when eating inside the closed off area are booths or the stools.

In any case, both parts of the restaurant are spotless, and both have a neat décor. The colors of the restaurant are pink, red and white. That may seem a bit weird, but it goes very well with the different pictures on the wall and the colors of the tables.

When our waitress handed us our menus, I took it and tried to open it up. It seems that there was only one page of food, and there was absolutely nothing on the back – except a translation in Spanish.

That’s when I remembered that Johnny Rockets has a very small, simple menu with not too much to offer. The main courses are an assortment of burgers and sandwiches. There are also starters which are only fries, onion rings and chili.

The shakes are out of this world.

I had the chocolate shake and so did my wife - I got mine mixed with bananas and peanut butter in it. It was so tasty and was overly filling. It was served in a huge glass, and the waitress gave us both more in a huge plastic container. She told us to fill up the glass again with the container at no extra charge.

Our son’s friend had a Chicken Club Sandwich was just as good as any other Chicken Club Sandwich - and that means that it was good.

He had the choice of having it served on wheat, rye, white or sourdough. He chose white and the bread came toasted and buttered. The chicken and bacon were well cooked. It came with huge slices of tomatoes but not too much lettuce. It was cut down diagonally down the middle, and unfortunately, it wasn’t served with anything on the side.

The service was extremely friendly.

Our waitress, dressed in a white chef hat and an apron, was very professional and very welcoming. She delivered our drinks and chili fries in just five minutes after ordering, and our main courses came ten minutes after ordering.

I would definitely recommend Johnny Rockets and wouldn’t hesitate to go again.

The food was delicious, the service was extremely friendly, I absolutely loved the atmosphere, and the restaurant seemed to be extremely well kept. The only bad aspect of the restaurant is that the menu is tiny.

That means that there are no options or close to no options for vegetarians. But if you are just looking for a good burger or sandwich joint, Johnny Rockets is the place for you!

Johnny Rockets is located in the Paseo del Carmen Plaza. It is open 7 days a week from 11am to 12 midnight.
