Petit Marrakesh in Playa del Carmen

Petit Marrakesh is a new French Moroccan restaurant located on Calle Corazon in downtown Playa del Carmen.

With an eclectic menu that will be sure to make your taste buds stand to attention I certainly think it is worthy of checking out. Moroccan born owner Rasheed, has been living in Mexico for the past 11 years, but has just been here in Playa del Carmen for the past 4 months. He comes to our community from Veracruz where he had a similar restaurant for many years. He seems truly passionate about his food and offers his culinary concoctions for your creative criticism.....

Choose from a variety of traditional Moroccan dishes with delicately prepared lamb served with couscous, or a saffron seafood stew that comes steaming hot to your table with a huge variety of seafood delicacies. If you are in the mood for something with a more French infused flavor try the generous portion of tuna with fresh blackberries (and yes, they are really fresh). One of the people in our party ordered the filet mignon with shrimp in a homemade sweet and sour sauce, she wasn’t a fan of the sauce, but I found it tangy and delicious.

Petit Marrakesh Owner and Chef RasheedThe fresh made pita bread with salmon spread was good to start with as we waited for our drinks to arrive. My raspberry vodka and mineral water was properly mixed and truly refreshing.  Although our server was not the friendliest person on the planet the service was adequate, but I would suggest checking your bill at the end of your meal. Overall I loved the food, and it was nice to experience something new and different, however they could work on the service attitude and turn down the lights a bit for a more intimate atmosphere.

Petit Marrakesh is located on Calle Corazon in Playa del Carmen. From 5th Avenue head up Calle Corazon and you will see it on your left hand side where the Art Bar used to be.

Great eclectic menu, enthusiastic chef, but the servers could use a lesson in manners.

Great food - but being relentlessly hit on by an overzealous Rasheed became somewhat offensive. Unfortunately I can never return. Now, if you're looking for some fun in that department - try it out.

We visited this restaurant the first week that it openned. We were served by the owner/chef, Rasheed, who took the time to explain each dish he was preparring and with such passion that the 4 of us told him to choose for us. The food was excellent and the duck was the best I've had. We enjoyed our experience so much we returned 3 days later for another great experience.
