You see Dr. Nicastro – aka Dr. Taco - was born in Mexico City, lived in the U.S., attended medical school in Guadalajara, and had a wonderful medical practice in the City of Roses – Guadalajara. All was great.

But then came their trip to Playa del Carmen in March 2003 and thus began the seduction and the idea for Dr. Taco was born. Created from scratch, they began their journey by securing a location on 10^th street right across from Blockbuster Video.

“We wanted a location that gave tourist access and yet gave locals a place to well” Dr. Taco explains. “We wanted our tacos blended from our experiences we’ve had from Cabo, Mazatlan, to Guadalajara – to include unique sauces and flavors that are truly different and add to the fare choices here in Playa”. They packed their bags and 1.5 year old child and moved to Playa.

After 6 months of business, things are going great and expansion is now an option. “We had the usual bumps to overcome and a few others we did not forsee but all in all, things have been outstanding. My only caveat is that I wish there was some sort of guide on starting a business in Playa as there are so many different agencies that require permits and licenses. That was the most difficult part.” Dr Taco says.

"We are thinking of expanding either up a floor or back behind us with extra room for sitting and dining. I am asking customers what they would prefer as we really want our customers to be part of the process. "

Dr. Taco offers unique fish and seafood taco’s 7 days a week from 12 noon to 12 midnight. They are located right across the street from Plaza Pelicanos.
