Description
New Restaurant in Playa del Carmen Offers a Variety of Tastes from the Orient Asiana, adjacent to The Royal Resort, has some new flavors to add to our ever growing restaurant options in Playa del Carmen. Web Guy and I decided to check it out a couple of weeks ago, and then again last night, to see if it was worthy of a Playa Maya News recommendation. ...
We had friends visiting from Stockholm, Sweden, and they
suggested we go check out the new restaurant Asiana. I called ahead to see if
we needed a reservation, and they only accept guests on a first come first
serve basis. So we Miso and ginger vegetable soups were at the top of the list, with a small variety of sushi rolls, and a nice selection of sashimi following. The Thai side of the menu offered a grilled duck, coconut shrimp, and a mango fish among others, and there was also a variety of teriyaki options listed under the Chinese portion of the menu. Web Guy went for the duck, I ordered tuna sashimi and a Rainbow Roll, and our dinner companions opted for the chicken and mixed teriyakis. We all started with Miso Soup and it came to our table in small ceramic pots, and was overflowing with mushrooms, small tofu cubes, and seaweed.
Once that was remedied they then just brought us a full bottle of Stolichnaya Vodka to the table and comped all of our drinks at the table; way to go customer service! All in the all the service was great, and aside from the mixed teriyaki the food was delicious and fresh so we decided to give it a second try with some friends visiting from California.
We were lucky to get a table outside in the breeze, and were
not subjected to the arctic chill of the inside. The house On average the prices are very fair, and with food and drink it runs about $250.00 pesos per person.Asiana is located on the corner of Constituyentes and 1st Avenue and is part of The Royal Resort. Open daily from 12:00-11:00 PM for further informaiton or to inquire about a private event please call: 984-873-4000.

By Sara "The Editor" Moen
decided to give it a try and when we arrived we were offered
a table for 4 inside. The first thing that you notice upon walking into the restaurant,
aside from the expansive dining room, and upscale décor, is that the
air-conditioning is set on FREEZING!
Needless to say we all quickly finished our soups, and went onto our main courses.
The duck was amazing, and grilled perfectly with a hint of a licorice flavor
that was out of this world. The Rainbow Roll was nothing extraordinary, but the Tuna Sashimi was amazingly fresh and flavorful. The Chicken Teriyaki was tender
and tangy, but the mixed Teriyaki lacked a bit of flavor. The funniest part of
the evening was when we ordered our cocktails. One of our dinner companions
likes to drink vodka straight up, but when they brought his glass to the table
it had a sort of yellow color to it. We re-ordered again, and it came back the
same. I went off to the bar to see if I could see what the deal was, and they
showed me the bottle (of Black Velvet) that they had poured for him.
red wine was great,
and there were no mishaps in the drink department. Web Guy couldn't resist and
went with the duck again, and was just as happy as the first time. I tried the
Mango Grouper, and quite honestly it was some of the best fish I have ever had.
Served with fresh vegetables and a tangy mango sauce, this dish I would recommend
whole heartedly. The Coconut Shrimp and Curried Vegetables were also a hit at the
table, and this was evident by the fact that we all "licked the platters clean".
I would recommend Asiana hands down and give it a try, but
