Ah Cacao Chocolate Café - Energizing Playa del Carmen with Real Chocolate
Press Release-Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo, México, 2008 - Where does chocolate come from? Belgium or Switzerland? Not even close! Chocolate was enjoyed by the Maya people of Mexico at least 2,000 years ago and at Ah Cacao Chocolate Café you can find out why.
Ah Cacao Chocolate Café promotes natural well being through the enjoyment of real chocolate and coffee,
all from Mexico. The café-store invokes the Maya origins of chocolate through design and specialties like the
"Chocolate Maya", an exotic, non-dairy, chocolate drink. The all-natural menu features coffee and chocolate in
all its forms, from drinks, to bars, to desserts, and a popular gift shop ensures that Ah Cacao Real Chocolate is
shared all over the world.
Ah Cacao Chocolate Café was opened in 2004 and quickly became a Playa del Carmen insitution, serving up to
800 guests a day. The store is operated by Ah Cacao Real Chocolate, a company founded shortly beforehand
by a Mexican-Irish couple Mónica Tello and Rohan Barnett. Ah Cacao Real Chocolate makes premium quality
chocolate products using criollo cacao from the Mayalands of Mexico, the birthplace of real chocolate. Mónica
recalls "at first no-one was interested in Mexican chocolate, but luckily Xcaret eco-park decided to give
their visitors the chance to experience real chocolate for themselves and soon we couldn't keep up with the
orders!"
Aside from gourmet coffee drinks like Café Lattes with latte-art, Iced Mochas, etc., popular products at Ah Cacao
Chocolate Café are: Chocolate Brownies (frequently FedEx'd to the US), the aforementioned Chocolate Maya
drink, Dark Chocolate Bars, Chocolate Ice-cream, Chocolate Mousse, Dark Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Chip
muffins, Chocolate Body Bars, Chocolate... you probably see a pattern by now! Everything is made freshly made
and, to ensure the highest quality, Ah Cacao baristas receive one month of training before performing their
art for guests.
To promote well being in the wider environment, Ah Cacao Chocolate Café recently published "The Green Guide
for Responsible Travelers" in association with Mexiconservación. The guide is a short pamphlet, distributed all
over the Riviera Maya, with tips for holiday-makers on reducing their impact on the natural environment. It can
be viewed at Mexiconservación's website: www.mexiconservacion.org
