Meet Soraya Ockhuysen and Jessica Schaap, owners of A 1 Vacation Rentals Mexico-bringing a personalized and "hands on" approach to vacationers and guests. Soraya first arrived in Playa del Carmen with a friend over 7 years ago. She had taken a Spanish course in Holland and was excited to come to a Spanish speaking country to get some practice so she threw on her backpack and off she went to Playa del Carmen. Originally from Amsterdam, Soraya was just looking for a bit of adventure, but never intended to stay long term in Playa del Carmen. That was over 7 years ago, and although she has returned to Holland periodically to visit, she now calls Playa del Carmen home. With nearly 30 years of experience in bartending and customer service in small hotels in Amsterdam she landed a job bartending at a local bar, the Beer Bucket, and this segued into working for other local favorites like Bar Ranita and The Tequila Barrel. By the spring of 2007 she decided to change her focus, and threw in her bar towel, and this is when the idea of A1 Vacation Rentals Mexico was born. Jessica Schaap was born in Scheveningen, Holland; a famous coastal town just south of Amsterdam. She originally followed her boyfriend here to Playa del Carmen, who was offered a job with a local company. She had only planned on staying a year, and that was over 4 years ago! With a background in refugee coordination in Holland she was offered a job at a fellow countryman's hotel in Playa del Carmen; Posada Freud. At Posada Freud she was in charge of guest services and reservations, and once that came to a close she moved onto work for local tour operator; Yucatan Explorer. In 2005 Jessica and Soraya met in a local yoga class, and they immediately hit it off and became fast friends. So when Soraya approached her with the idea of opening their own business together, Jessica jumped at the chance. A1 Vacation Rentals came to fruition in the summer of 2007, and when asked what they want to bring to their clients they both answered unanimously; a personalized hands on approach that brings the best overall vacation experience to their prospective clients. Their focus is to make their clients feel personally taken care of with one on one contact rather then just through e-mails and phone calls. When a guest arrives for their first "meet and greet" they will actually meet Jessica and Soraya .rather then be passed off to someone else. The end result? Guests take home an intimate vacation experience that will leave then happy and satisfied and planning their next trip through A1 Vacations Mexico.
