Hello to all our friends and clients. Thank you for your concern for us here in Playa del Carmen during hurricane Wilma. I send you this note complete with some pictures taken Thursday October 7 only four days after the passing of Hurricane Wilma. All the staff here at One Stop Real Estate, is fine and our homes and families are fine as well...
I can not say enough about how the government has organized this situation. The day after the hurricane in gale force winds and sheets of rain the police were out in every intersection controlling the traffic. Let me recap for you:
There have been hundreds of workers trimming trees and cleaning streets. There are dump tucks and loaders clearing and taking away debris all over down town and in the Ejido across the high way. They report that the entire city will be clean in no time Buildings with metal roofs or incomplete construction were the most damaged. Remember the construction here is usually concrete and steel.
The Crystal water company was delivering purified water to all the houses by Wednesday. The grocery stores are open and stocked. The gas stations are pumping gas. The beaches are clean and beautiful. The Jazz festival is coming November 17th, 18th, and 19th, check http://www.rivieramaya.com/ for more information.

Playa del Carmen took 36 hours of pounding by a category four hurricane. During those 36 hours hundreds of workers were en route from all over Mexico to assist with the clean up. We have over 800 electricians putting up new poles and rewiring Playa del Carmen and the surrounding areas. They are working day and night literally, and thanks to them most of the city has electricity has already been restored.
Fifth Avenue is impeccably clean. If you walk 5th Avenue in the evening you will see bars, restaurants, and stores are open and there’s a very friendly camaraderie among the people.
So contrary to the sensationalized, and in my opinion, irresponsible news casting you may have been hearing, Playa del Carmen is alive and well. Now I can not speak for Cozumel or Cancun, but I can tell you if you come two weeks from now you won’t even know anything happened.
