An update courtesy of One Stop Real Estate: This has been a very interesting fall season in Playa. From two major hurricanes, to the clean up and rewiring of the entire city for electricity and phone service, and now booming into the current high season! In November I sent an article out that covered the events that were taking place here directly after hurricane Wilma. I do not want to cover the same ground but I do want to say it has been amazing! It was like Mother Nature decided to do some spring (in this case fall) cleaning it was very similar to my gardener using a leaf blower to clean out my yard. The difference is Mother Nature’s leaf blower was a little larger with more horse power and she does several states at a time. The end result is Playa del Carmen is better than ever before. The phone service has been totally rewired and is clearer now. The electrical service is also rewired and upgraded. The streets are cleaner and the trees are trimmed, in some case over trimmed but, coming back nicely. In spite of the outstanding government support some people have suffered financially. The government made arrangements that no one has to pay any loans payments for there houses or cars until March. Any taxes owing can also be deferred until March. This shows great support from the government however many people saw their lively hood shut down until the tourism came back. This forced some people in the tourism industry to relocate to other Tourist cities until things came back here in Quintana Roo. Well we are back! Playa Del Carmen is booming and packed full of tourists having fun and asking themselves “where’s all this devastation we heard about?” Now we have all the extra tourism from Cancun and other areas that are not yet ready to receive guests. They are pleasantly surprised as they discover Playa for perhaps the first time. They are also exploring all kinds of investing here in Playa. That being said, the market is still very brisk and picking up momentum. The builders have not missed a beat either. We have new projects all over the city and in Puerto Aventuras. These projects are ushering in a new higher end, luxury product with several very creative designs and amenities. The city is also doing a good job overseeing the designs and engineering of each project. It has been exciting to be here to see Playa going through this challenging time and coming out on top! We are better for the experience.
Make it a great day! Shawn Bandick is originally from Canada, a published author, and owns One Stop Real Estate (http://www.onestopmc.com/). He can be reached by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by phone at +52(984)100-5016
