Going Green with Mary Odermatt Rancho Mayab and Living Green – Project in Xpu-ha near Puerto Aventuras In a time when the world is obsessed with the newest technologies and the latest and greatest, it really is time to go “old school”. We as human beings are consumers, consuming, ultimately our beautiful planet. It is not too late to change our ways, and it seems that the 21st century is really getting a grip on how to change for the better by using natural alternative energy sources. Mexico has been a popular vacation destination and retirement haven for years; however recently more and more young families have been coming and making Mexico their home. The Riviera Maya alone has been growing at an astounding rate of over 25% per year. Easy access to the area from major US cities, tropical sunshine, beautiful Caribbean beaches and lush jungle makes it easy to see why many people have chosen and continue to choose this area as their home! However, much of this growth has impacted the local flora and fauna in a negative way. Eco-friendly development is becoming more and more popular as people are realizing that something has to be done about our current situation in order to preserve our planet for future generations. Rancho Mayab is a development company with a twist. We are selling jungle lots of 1 hectare (2.47 acres) each with the idea to keep as much of the jungle undisturbed as possible. We want to preserve the beauty and tranquility of the jungle habitat and live in harmony with nature all the while trying to reduce our carbon footprint. Each one hectare lot has a protection plan with a property setback and undisturbed area guidelines. This will in turn protect the jungle flora and fauna and your investment. With these protections in place you will be able to enjoy the tranquility and space of your lot and not feel crowded. The project is still close enough to Playa del Carmen to commute, yet still have a quiet jungle retreat. Owners will have the freedom to design their own eco-home and incorporate eco-friendly designs and structures. The amount of sunshine, wind and rain in the Riviera Maya make it extremely feasible to have your home off the grid and never have to pay another utility bill again! Ultimately this project is an affordable way to have a self sustained vacation home or even full time home in the beautiful Riviera Maya. This is an investment that will only appreciate in value. We hope that our vision is shared and that more and more people will go green by incorporating ecologically sound practices into their everyday lives as well as when building a jungle home.
