YUCATAN PENINSULA WORLD'S LARGEST CONSUMER OF COCA-COLA

Mexico overtook the U.S. a few years ago to lead the world as regards per capita consumption of Coca-Cola products.

A staggering 459 eight-ounce bottles were imbibed last year for every man, woman and child in the country. Some regions are larger consumers than others.

The Yucatan Peninsula's hot climate and huge tourist industry contribute to its per capita consumption of more than 550 bottles a year.

"It's a health concern" one local resident opined - "it is just too much coke."

Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen announces the start of a New Community Center in the Elijido

Rotary Club has announced that a new Community Center will be built in the Colonia Hidal on 4th and 130th Street. It will have Classrooms, Computers, and more for the benefit of the community.

The new Community Center will be built from donations within the community, rotary clubs from around the world, and from all our leaders in business so that the underprivileged can enjoy the fruits of the success of our community.

The land has already been purchased and the construction will be made with matching grants from other Rotary Clubs in Florida and Colorado.

“It is our # 1 focus right now and has been a dream for us for over 2 years now. We will supervise the construction and coordinate all contractors. “We think it will take about 1.5 years to complete. It really depends when we money donated.” Club Secretary Peniche says.

Pachuca defeats the Playa del Carmen 2 - 0 in the biggest Playoff Match in PDC History.

The Junior team from Pachuca in central mexico came to Playa and played a stellar and inspired game against a formidable Playa del Carmen squad.

The Division II Soccer Playoff Match was held at Playa Stadium today - Thursday - in front of a raucous and an enthusiastic capacity crowd.

On the pitch, drums were beating and horns blasting the sounds of that unique ear candy familiar to those who enjoy the game.

"It is a Mayan futbol craze. I mean cars packed the streets and beer was everywhere." said Jorge Leal, a spectator who doubled as a drum major.
