My wife, Biljana, and I visited Playa Del Carmen three years ago on a vacation. It was instant delight and love. Now, we pondered, how could we create our lifestyle in Playa? Difficult question for us because our roots seem to be firmly planted and this is what we decide to do.........
As a practicing Architect with my own firm in Colorado Springs, Colorado, I was determined to come up with a way of having a place to live in Playa as well as a way to provide architectural design services to the local and surrounding communities. I felt that I could help add some talent to further the growth of the area by creating ideas and results that would increase the esthetic and practical qualities of the place in which I wanted to become a part. So I made my plan

Canada Kicks Ass - Well, kind of........ Lord Stanley's Cup comes to Playa del Carmen
The Stanley Cup finals were celebrated across Playa del Carmen and especially at the Canada friendly Cabalova Sports and Sushi Bar.
The Calgary Flames fought a galant battle against the talented Lightinng of Tampa Bay to no avail.
The lone Tampa Fan, Chucky was in true form displaying his support for Tampa Bay as he galloped gracously carrying the faux paux cup that was made in honor of the event.
Calgarians were disappointed with the outcome but were gracious in defeat as the beer and fun continued into the night.
“There is always next year right? " said Willie from Regina Saskatchewan and now a Mayan Palace sales executive.
The Playa Muse - Bringing You a Bit of the Pulse of Playa with some of the most asked questions and revealing answers
Yikes, what is happening with Playa? Streets are torn up, store fronts have “Clausurado” pasted all over them – New drainage, underground telephone, electricity and cable and beautiful streets are being laid. What’s going on?
What’s happening to Playa – so many stores are “Clausurado”?
Relax, all. Playa is thriving. Those “Clausurado” are pasted all over town, on walls and store fronts, because City Hall is finally enforcing the Signage regulation! In this case, the offending signs may be too big, too large, or just not have required permit and license. Did the business owners know this was about to occur? Well, sort of, in Mexican minute sense, but they did know for years it was required to have a sign permit. No permit, big fine and an ugly, big “Clausurado” sign pasted on your front.

Colegio Ingles – Educational Excellence in the Riviera Maya
So they say great achievements are born from great opportunity. If that is true, it looks like we have greatness upon us at the Colegio Ingles, the brand new campus for young people on the Careterra Federal in Playa del Carmen.
You see back in 1998, Colegio Ingles was just a dream for a single mother who just wanted a wonderful education for her child.
Working in Cancun running a long distance service firm, Eugenia Guzman began to obtain many clients in Playa del Carmen. As she acquired more and more, she found herself spending more time in Playa and it grew on her. She wanted to live in Playa.
Finding a job can be a difficult task. Hold on. I stand corrected. Finding a good job can be a difficult task. No matter where you live, good jobs are always in demand. Obtaining one should not just be left to luck; you need to know where to look. It also can depend on who you know or being in certain places at certain times. Knowing where to start, at least, is the key.
When looking to move to Mexico, unless you are in retirement mode, you will eventually need to find a good job. Now you could up and move to Mexico on a travellers visa, find a job and then apply for a more long-term visa, (refer to my last article for information on visas), but from what I have heard, it is a much bigger hassle to get a visa in Mexico, then getting one in your home country. Sometimes you might not even get the visa in Mexico even if you have a job! (Not that it is a sure deal at home either.) I would recommend finding your job from home, having everything planned before you arrive. With an FM3, you need to be sponsored by a company to acquire one. Some companies will get the visa for you, but others will not. So look around! You might find yourself in the right place at the right time, you never know!.

Café Corazon, Playa’s newest and most inviting neighborhood coffee house, with its vibrantly painted walls and traditional Mexican colonial décor is truly a fabulous place to just come and relax with your favorite friends and family. Especially with a name like Café Corazon (Heart Café), clearly, this is a magical place of Amore –
Built on the smiles of living with passion in paradise, Fiona Piff and Ana Paula Candido Owners of Café Corazon have created a lovely place of warmth and love. With the fabulous flavor of fresh Mexican grown coffee, and rich delicious desserts. For both locals and tourists a like.
Ron Brown, real estate agent on Isla Mujeres off the northeast coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, tells us there are pros and cons to island living….mostly pros, of course. In addition to the beautiful weather, warm, clear Caribbean water, delicious seafood and political stability of Mexico, Ron says his favorite thing about living on Isla Mujeres is the lifestyle. Ron calls it ‘laid back’ and attributes it to the agreeable (usually) mañana attitude enjoyed by Mexicans. They’ll be there in an emergency, but if it’s something that can wait until tomorrow, why not?
Ron plays tennis every morning, and he says the camaraderie and fellowship between locals and foreigners alike on the island is a huge plus in his mind. Recently, fundraisers for the local humane society and island medical clinic have brought folks together to eat, drink and make merry. No matter how good…or bad…a musician you are, Ron says, your efforts are appreciated by the island’s small community.
Fine French Dining is Sophisticated Causal at Byblos
“A bottle of white! OOh, a bottle of red! Perhaps of bottle of rose instead. Get a table near the street in our old familiar place, you and I face to face – umm, umm" said Jean from Paris to his lovely latin mademoiselle –
C’est La Vie! That’s the love at Byblos, Playa del Carmen’s premier authentic French restaurant. It’s cozy, warm, friendly, sophisticated, casual, and oozing with air of amor.
Owned and operated by Sylvie Goetz, Byblos is the summation of years of earned success working in the gastronomic branche in Luxembourg.
