Four years ago, Leticia Rocamora came to Cancun from Guadalajara with dreams of getting into the fashion industry. You see, back in Guadalajara, she was a designer and that was to be her calling – her breakout. But fate was about to step in.
Her sister, Alma Rocamora, had already been working in Cancun for a company that sold wine-by-the-glass to the tourism industry. Out and about, Alma started hearing too many companies complaining that there was not enough fine wine choices in the area. The complaining was often. “They just wished there would be someone, some firm who can offer their clients what they really wanted.” Alma said
So she told Leticia, and she decided to do what is basic in business school – See a Need, Fill a Need – and Distribuidora Vinicola del Caribe was borne.
Assertive, Fierce and Tender, Fine as the PlayaMaya Sand, and yet hard as a Mayan Warrior´s Shield, the paintings of Jaime Fierro emit a light of power and emotion that is filled with a loveable smile and an under current of pain, suffering, with a heartfelt humanity that bleeds with the bitterness of life – yes, this is Jaime Fierro. He feels, he desires, he inspires, and he paints!
Born in the Temuco region of Chile on July, 16th 1945, Jaime Fierro was born with a paint brush for an arm. His natural disposition spoke to him early in life – painting the colors of youth.
As a matter of life and breathing, the wind came and took him on a journey of discovery through the shades of the Americas. On a cloud, he traveled and lived in Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, and finally to Brazil where his family settled.
Falling in Love with Mexico will Change You Forever

Can Love of Spanish, of Mexico, of Love itself Really Change Us?
I remember my introduction to the theory of Chaos in the movie Jurassic Park. Mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) takes the top of Dr. Sattler's hand (Laura Dern) and drops a tiny drop of water on it. They watch together as the water runs off. He repeats the procedure, dropping the water in the same exact spot. Sattler is surprised as the drop rolls off her hand in an entirely different direction than before. Malcolm attributes the variation in result to the tiny imperfections in the skin of her hands; the minutest of details can have enormous effects and cause completely unpredictable outcomes. This is my understanding of Chaos theory—it may or may not be completely accurate—but this simplified Jurassic Park definition seems to be at work in my own life.
I’ve only recently really realized how much contingency has created unexpected chains of events in my life. Is it destiny, pure coincidence, or Providence? I do not even pretend to know, but the point is, here I am in Mexico,.
Capacity Crowd Packs the House to see Pasion Playa’s presentation of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Held at the Plaza Centenario in front of the Pier, the anxious crowd was treated to an outstanding cultural delight of song, play, and show.
Produced and Directed by Maria Martina Puchpasos and Shane Southcott of Pasion Playa, our local theatre group, the play started off with the live band setting the tone and a wonderful roar of applause from attendees.
Much to the delight of the audience, the actors responded in kind with a lively and effervescent ensemble performance that was accented by the heavenly assertive sounds of the talented choir.
In the audience were locals and tourists alike………….hundreds, maybe thousands of smiling faces said Pasion Playa's presentation was a victory not only for the audience and the kids in the theatre group - but a complete and total victory for the community.
Business Leaders give children art, theatre, and music through funding of Playa's Theatre Group
“So, if you are the Christ, yes, the great Jesus Christ, prove to me that you're divine. Change my water into wine! That's all you need do, then I'll know it's all true. Come on, King of the Jews!” screams a young actor practicing to play King Herrod in the upcoming play, Jesus Christ Superstar.
You see, this is Pasion Playa, a place where young kids go to learn and discover themselves through acting, theatre, and music by putting on plays – where young people and those with experience in the arts come together to unite the spirit that is our community..........
Beachgoers, Bon-Vivants, World Class Divers, Italian Rastamen, Socialites in Mayan Sarapes, and it just got better …….
Welcome to Kartabar - the new avant-garde restaurant and night spot serving Arabic Mediterranean Cuisine in the most exquisite and unique atmosphere Playa has to offer.
I was told by some local friends that this is the place to be - that Kartabar offered the freshest most unique food with atmosphere unmatched. My curiosity was stimulated. My expectations raised ……… Would this be the real thing?
When I walked in you could feel the love, the care, and atmosphere………it hits you with a “I just love being here” thing. There is something about it – it’s truly enchanting and it fits right here in the land of enchantment.
We were shown to our table by a fashionable young man dressed in traditional Mediterranean Arabesque garb. His smile said it all. The very hip and well traveled Jamil Hindi, the resident manager and nephew of the proprietor, Philippe Maatouk, greeted us with a wonderful “Marhaba, Welcome to Kartabar”..

PLAYA DEL CARMEN - Surprisingly strong sales in the 1st Quarter of 2004 proved that Riviera Maya businesses are growing and tourists are in the buying mood right now with no restraints in sight.
Shawn Bandick, partner at One Stop Real Estate – a retail real estate brokerage – says “January started slow and it picked up significantly throughout February and March. In the next quarter, we expect a lot of people coming that are preparing to open up business to meet market demands for the fall. For the remainder of , we feel it will be booming. YUCATAN PENINSULA WORLD'S LARGEST CONSUMER OF COCA-COLA
Mexico overtook the U.S. a few years ago to lead the world as regards per capita consumption of Coca-Cola products.
A staggering 459 eight-ounce bottles were imbibed last year for every man, woman and child in the country. Some regions are larger consumers than others.
The Yucatan Peninsula's hot climate and huge tourist industry contribute to its per capita consumption of more than 550 bottles a year.
"It's a health concern" one local resident opined - "it is just too much coke."
