Fine French Dining is Sophisticated Causal at Byblos
“A bottle of white! OOh, a bottle of red! Perhaps of bottle of rose instead. Get a table near the street in our old familiar place, you and I face to face – umm, umm" said Jean from Paris to his lovely latin mademoiselle –
C’est La Vie! That’s the love at Byblos, Playa del Carmen’s premier authentic French restaurant. It’s cozy, warm, friendly, sophisticated, casual, and oozing with air of amor.
Owned and operated by Sylvie Goetz, Byblos is the summation of years of earned success working in the gastronomic branche in Luxembourg.
So many people over the last year have asked me that I realized that the perception of owning in Mexico does not equal the reality - that people outside of Mexico are operating under the old rules and not the new..........Thus, I thought it prudent to outline clearly the very simple rules of ownership here in Mexico, Playa del Carmen, and in Riviera Maya.
First, The Mexican Law allows foreigners to acquire the rights to use of real estate located in the coastal and border areas of Mexico, through means of a Trust Agreement (Fideicomiso Traslativo de Dominio or simply Fideicomiso) This is the most advantageous legal instrument available for foreigners to acquire land in Mexico for residential purposes. It allows foreigners to have the same rights and obligations that real estate full-ownership provides.
A Ounce of Planning will Save you a Pound or Should I Say A Kilo of Headache!
Seriously thinking of dropping everything and moving to a foreign land, this is a huge decision. Maybe you plan to stay only for a few months, or maybe for years. Where do you start?
The process will take months before you actually end up in Mexico, but researching is the best place to begin. I will begin to answer some of the basic information on visas in the following article. When I say begin, I really do mean begin.
But where should I begin? That is the true question.
One says that some of the best discoveries are off the beaten track is The Pummarola restaurant. The Pummarola means “Tomato” in the Napolitano dialect. It is located between the Shangri-La, and the Reef Coco Beach hotels on a dirt track called Flamingo Road which is one block from the beach nested between condominiums. It is a true find.
The brick oven Pizza - Pure Napolitano Style, served on an individual board, is a meal in itself..... Beyond the many varieties, the Margarita which is classic, simple and mouth watering, is my favorite.
Expatriatesfrom the United States and Canada living in Mexico can readily see the differences in the availability and use of consumer credit in the several countries. As both a user of credit and a lawyer representing clients in financial matters, I offer the following observations.
In the United States, a consumer does not have to seek credit; it pursues him. I have represented clients in bankruptcy proceedings who showed up at the first meeting of creditors with a brand new credit card. Very often these cards were unsolicited. Ironically, many of my clients were in bankruptcy because they had used and abused a half dozen or more credit cards.
Mexico – for many North Americans, the word conjures up visions of sombreros, tequila and mariachis. Many North Americans also feel they know the United States’ closest neighbor to the south, even if they’ve never visited. It’s familiar somehow, and in a post-September 11 world Mexico is starting to feel nearer than other countries in Central and South America, or as the new Mexican Tourism Office slogan puts it, “Closer than Ever.”
Yet Mexico is a huge country with geography as diverse as that in the US. We knew there was more to Mexico than the old Pancho Villa stereotypes, so we loaded the back of the pickup, had a last helping of Midwest comfort food, said goodbye to the chilly weather, and took off for a three-month exploratory trip on the roads of Mexico.

How a Regular Guy from Jersey bought a Piece of Paradise

How do those people who own those beautiful homes in Cozumel and the Riviera Maya do it?
Well, if you’re like me, you may have assumed that only doctors or lawyers were able to own a home in the Caribbean. Well, I’m here to tell you anyone can do it!
My name is John Gallik and I am real estate agent here on Cozumel. I am originally from New Jersey and recently moved here permanently after I fell in love with paradise. Now, I own a beautiful home here - just an average guy from New Jersey. So how did that happen? Can you do it?
Back in Jersey, I was a maintenance supervisor and property manager. My wife and I were on one of our many trips to the Island of Cozumel and just for fun stopped by Cozumel Living and spoke with Nancy Edwards, the owner.
