An insider's perspective on the media hype that has hit Mexcio in recent months.
By Shawn Bandick
Hello everyone,
This news letter has been going out from One Stop Real Estate in Playa Del Carmen
for several years now. Today I want to share with you a bit of reality. It is unfortunate when we hear from so many of our friends and clients who love traveling to Mexico, , and they are confused and cannot seem to get a clear picture of how Mexico really is today. I hope to help shed some light on that with this article.

Travel Industry: 'Viva La Mexico'
By BRIAN PEARSON
Business Editor (courtesy of Tyler Paper )
Quitman residents Jeff and Analiese Morris
first saw the grim television reports about the H1N1 panic in late
April while sitting in the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport
terminal and waiting on a Mexico-bound flight.
Jeff
Morris already had enough to think about, considering it was his first
time to fly and Mexico’s image was already tainted with reports of
bloody drug cartel violence. The couple had left behind four children
to embark on a rare vacation together.

Is the Glass Half Empty or Half Full?
By Enrique Saldana
My “Compadre” and I always have some kind of discussion and disagreement in regards to the way the world economy is moving.
It is obvious that the thermometer for that is what is happening within the USA economy.
He seems to think that we are still under a tremendous economic meltdown, and I, on the other hand, seem to think we are coming out of the so called “worst recession”, or economic downturn, in our lifetime.
Yes, I have seen many small real estate companies in the area disappear (close), and other “big” name companies downsize, as the economic downturn has hit more closely to home.
There are also some developers whom have been hit by this economic meltdown (downturn).
There are those that are in total disarray, and there are those whom have been able to adjust offering purchasing incentives which will enable them to “weather the storm”, so to speak.

Cocina 38 in Playa del Carmen Cocina 38 in Playa del Carmen; a local’s point of view.
By Nicola Inwood
There is a new restaurant in town and although at first we were reluctant to share for fear of changing this great spot, we decided we had to share this little piece of heaven.
The food is excellent, the service great, the atmosphere is wonderful and, we like the husband and wife team that own the place.

Kayaking along the Caribbean Coast of the Riviera Maya; a wonderful way to explore.
By Ann Irvine
It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since we drove our first kayak down to the beach at Xcacel. Back then, a kayak on the rooftop of a car was cause for people to stop and stare, especially if you were driving through the highlands of Chiapas and Veracruz as we did on our annual trips to the Xcacel and the Akumal area back in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Swedish Ambassador, Anna Lindstedt, Visits Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya.
By Sara Moen
I was recently invited by local business owner, and active Rotary member, Thed Petterson to meet the Swedish Ambassador to Mexico. Thed, originally from Sweden, has been in Playa del Carmen for many years, and is the co-owner of La Rana Cansada, and has often arranged interviews and sit downs for me with various officials over the years. So when Thed called and invited me to meet and interview the Swedish Ambassador to Mexico I jumped at the opportunity.
