Furnishing your house in Playa del Carmen

A customers point of view on working with the new company, Gringo Furniture.

And the Adventure Begins….

For about the last six or seven years, my wife and I had been dreaming of owning a condominium or villa in or around Playa del Carmen.  Finally, last August, the stars were aligned and our dream became a reality.  We were able to buy a brand new, unfurnished condominium in Playacar.  My wife who is quite a talented decorator, would be able to furnish the condo to her liking and before we knew it, we would be all settled in.  We live in Troy, Michigan and figured furniture shopping would be much the same  in Playa del Carmen as it was at home.  If not, we certainly could order over the phone from the likes of Pottery Barn and have the furniture delivered to Mexico.  Boy, were we in for a surprise!

Moises after his surgery in Lansing, Michigan

Originally published November 5th, 2006 in the Lansing State Journal

Moises returns home with a new face, and new outlook.

He sat in a Lansing doctor's exam chair, surrounded by smiling people he could barely speak to, in yet another of many moments far from home. Moises Chiquil didn't complain to them, these surgeons and foreign nurses so happy to see him breathe freely through his aching new nose. But he wiped away a single tear - shed as much in deep gratitude as physical pain - and tried to smile despite the numbness. Estoy feliz," he said with obvious joy. "I feel like a different person." The 21-year-old is now back in Mexico, recovering from the Sparrow Hospital surgery that repaired a rare facial birth defect, carrying the kindness that also healed invisible wounds.

Mezzanine in Tulum Mexico

Mezzanine has created causal elegance on the shores of the Caribbean Sea.

If you have yet to visit Mezzanine it is heaven on earth, and a must do. It is a small boutique hotel, a trendy upscale bar and a restaurant that serves great Thai food; all located on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. I have been to Mezzanine a handful of times for cocktails and appetizers, dinner, beach lounging, and general indulgence. After the last couple of times of decadence and social hedonism I thought I would write about my experiences.

Capital gains in Playa del Carmen

Sorting out the complexities of foreign eligibility of mortgages, and capital gains taxes, in Playa del Carmen.

Hello Everyone.

It has been a while since I have made the time to write an article. It is not that I didn’t have anything to write about; quite the contrary, there is plenty to say! Today I would like to talk about two major topics; mortgages, and capital gains tax. There seems to be confusion among some buyers in regards to mortgages in The Riviera Maya and Mexico. Here is what I know as of today, but keep in mind things are rapidly changing here to accommodate the booming real estate market.
