After a few days off for the holidays we are back and look
forward to a great year in 2007.
We are closing in on our third year of running Playa
Maya News, and since our re-design in July we have increased our traffic by
over 300%. This is thanks to all of our loyal readers and new comers that have
made Playa Maya News one of the top sites in the Riviera Maya. Our goal in 2007
is to continue to add new features and services to encompass both the needs of
local residents as well as visitors to Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya.
There are multiple health benefits in pepitas (pumpkin seeds) as well as being a tastey snack.
Pumpkin seeds have been a long time favorite of mine reminding me of Halloween, carving pumpkins, and roasting your own seeds. Once I moved to Playa del Carmen, as an adult, I could appreciate the fact that they were a salty crunchy snack that was not fried. A few years ago when I quit smoking I became a pumpkin seed fanatic to help me kick the habit, and they have now been a long time staple in my bodega. Little did I know that there are many health benefits to this small green seed, and some great recipes that you can include in your menu planning as well.
Santa Claus came to town, and he brought piles of presents.
Angel Notion and the Bomberos had an amazingly successful gift drive for Christmas 2006. There were multiple trees each dedicated to a specific cause; the elderly, special needs children and families, the children of the Bomberos, and then the tree for Santa by Suprise. Santa by Suprise brings gifts to some of the out lying villages and pueblas between Puerto Morelos and Tulum. This year the largest convoy was dispatched from the municipal in Playa del Carmen with more then 20 cars packed to the gills with gifts. Check out the photos below to see that Santa Claus was the Pied Piper of Playa del Carmen...

This tiny sweetheart can't be much more then 6 weeks old, and she needs a loving family.
We found this little pup by our house in Playa del Carmen. We kept hearing a puppy cry but when we would check outside she was no where to be seen. Finally Web Guy saw her and tried to coax her over, but she was too scared and ran away. But alas we do not give up that easily and left food and water for her outside of our gate....
Ula Gula in Playa del Carmen a True Culinary Treat

With their tag line reading “Bar and Restaurant with a
Twist” Ula Gula will impress you with their original recipes and top-notch
service.
Although Ula Gula opened 4 years ago I hadn’t eaten
there before last Friday. When a restaurant has survived the Playa del Carmen scene
for more then a year there is definitely something to their concept. Argentine
owned and operated, I had only ever heard great reviews, and when a friend
invited me and the Web Guy out for dinner I suggested Ula Gula. We arrived and
were immediately seated at a great table with a view of 5th Avenue perfect for people
watching. The waiter came over with the menus’ and took our drink orders returning quickly with a tray full of perfectly
poured cocktails.

It takes approximately one year to break even in the average business, it
can take three years to show a profit, and it can take up to five years before a new business starts to generate
real cash flow. In the real estate
industry, it takes about six months to start closing your first deals, a year
to start showing reasonable profit, and about three years to begin enjoying the
fruits of a good and successful real estate career. So you have to be patient. If you're
impatient, what can happen is that you will end up setting yourself back further than when you first started.
