Being a foreigner living abroad can be
challenging enough without having to think about travel, or long-term health
insurance. When we first moved here from Seattle, health insurance was one of
our main concerns, so we ended up paying astronomical premiums to continue our
health insurance and benefits through a previous employer. But once we were
settled, and were working here for far less then what we would make in the US,
Canada, or Europe, the idea of paying nearly $700.00 USD per month, for 2
healthy adults, seemed over the top.
Advanced Security Systems in Playa del Carmen. Meet Martina
Steen and Anthony Spadaro.
By Sara Moen
Martina, originally from Sweden, and Anthony from the US
moved here to Playa del Carmen about 2 years ago from Philadelphia. They had
been coming to Playa del Carmen, and the Rivera Maya, after getting married in
Holbox, and fell in love with the area, like so many of us have. The energy of
a booming beach town, the weather, and the opportunity to create their own
business were just some of the benefits of packing up and moving to Mexico.
With a background in electrical engineering, Anthony briefly sold real estate,
but he and Martina decided to open their own business filling an untapped niche
in Playa del Carmen; residential and commercial security systems. Anthony
currently co-owns a similar company in New York with his brother, and has for
the past 10 years, so he KNOWS security.
Utilize the multiple benefits of Ozone Therapy at the SANAR Clinic in Playa del Carmen.

Some time
ago, my office door swung open to expose the battered face of a
60-something-year-old Vietnam vet. From a blood transfusion in the war, he acquired
Hepatitis C, and he came to my practice seeking the relief that acupuncture can
provide for chronic fatigue, a key symptom in Hep C.
Try out some great wines and restaurants in Playa del Carmen!
When
one thinks of Mexico images of beautiful beaches, sparkling blue water, warm
weather, and relaxation come to mind along with margaritas and an ice cold
bucket of Corona, but wine? Not often do people affiliate Mexico with quality
wine, and wine tasting. However, there are some great national wines as well as
some exquisite choices from our neighbors to the south in Chile and Argentina
as well as Italy.
"I Thought You Were Driving!" ~ How a nice suburban family ended up in Playa del Carmen, Mexico~
By Michele Kinnon
Recently, while Rob and I were doing our Spotlight Interview
for Playa Maya News, the question came up. A question I have been asked and
have answered hundreds of times since we arrived in Playa del Carmen with our
children nearly four years ago. "What made you decide to move to Mexico?"
WHO YA GONNA CALL?
-PDC Mortgage Watch
September 2008-
Who doesn't
remember the popular movie "Ghost Busters" that became a tremendous hit in the United
States and all over the world after being released in 1984? Remembering this
film, and thinking about the everyday calls we get from some of the local
realtors, some of them to meet with people to later find out they do not
qualify for a mortgage, has prompted me to begin a list of Important Questions to Ask at the First Interview with your
mortgage property purchaser candidate. This is in an effort to save the Realtor time and money, while working
with clients, and to only dedicate time to qualified buyers.
The Riviera Maya is blessed with a year round temperate
climate, which makes for perfect conditions for gardening; specifically tropical
fruit trees. Although some trees may take quite awhile to mature they can offer
much in return; they act like the lungs of our planet filtering out carbon dioxide
and many of them are extremely useful in other ways as well. Many tropical
trees that bear fruit can easily grow in the Riviera Maya; some are native to
this area and others are not, but most of these are relatively easy to grow
from seed. A handful of these trees include:avocado, banana, citrus, coconut, mamey sapote, mango, papaya and
tamarind.
Babysitting in Playa del Carmen: Take a night off from
parenting or spend an R ‘n' R day on the beach "kid free".
One of the most frequently asked questions that we receive
is in regards to childcare available in Playa del Carmen. Many year round
residents have nannies or part time childcare, but many people coming to visit
don't really know what is available. Many resorts have in-house childcare, but
if you are staying in a private condominium or villa the options are a bit more
limited; until recently. I was walking near Paseo del Carmen when I saw a flyer
that was advertising bi-lingual childcare services with over 15 years of experience
so I took the flyer and decided to do further investigating.

MEXICO CITY — Mexico's notoriously unreliable postal service is getting the shock treatment; shocking pink, that is. Infamous for lost packages and tardy delivery, the postal service is getting a hot-pink makeover to try to brighten up its image, win back customers.... and pull it out of the red.
