Annual Tequila Expo and Festival runs July 15th-19th, 2009 in Playa del Carmen!
The
2009 Playa del Carmen Tequila Festival and Expo will run from July 15th
through July 19th and will be held the corner of Fifth Avenue and
Calle 16 Bis in downtown Playa del Carmen. Admission is free, and there will be different tequila products available for tasting, along with a
celebration of Mexican culture and traditions.
Tequila has grown in popularity over the years, and is no longer considered a "spring breakers" drink of choice. Good
tequila stands with any of the great whiskeys and liquors of the world. You'll
find many tequilas that are complex in flavor-meant for sipping, not shooting.
The Tequila Expo will be a great place to learn about this Mexican tradition.
Traditional brands such as Herradura, Patron and other top quality distilleries
will be represented, but the majority of displays are for small high quality
distilleries whose tequila is only available in Mexico. And of course, it being
Mexico, there were also mariachis, music, and crafts.
***DISCLAIMER!!!***
The Tequila Expo in August 2008 never came to
fruition. They publicized it last August, but when a group of us went
to go there was no festival, and NO explanation when the Riviera Maya
Tourism Board was contacted. They then had it scheduled for the first
weekend in May, but it was canceled due to the H1N1 virus. It has
finally been re-scheduled for this July 15th through the 19th in
downtown Playa del Carmen.
