The Taste of Playa is a new culinary event in Playa del Carmen that will celebrate the creativity and cultural influences of chefs throughout the Riviera Maya. We would like to invite you to the First Annual Taste of Playa September 5th, 2009 from 3:00 PM-9:00 PM at Parque Fundadores in downtown Playa del Carmen.

Food festivals are not a new concept dating back thousands of years to celebrate the arrival of a plentiful harvest. They have evolved over the years to honor food and culture from all over the world, and have become major draws to visitors wanting to experience different areas and regions.

Taste of Chicago, the Bite of Seattle, and Toronto Taste are just a few examples of food festivals that have succeeded a thousand fold since their inception. The idea behind the Taste of Playa was inspired by the Toronto Taste Fundraiser; a food festival held annually by Second Harvest as a means to support the community’s social food programs. The Taste of Playa has adopted some of the same concepts of this successful event by developing an international food festival that will also help support, cultivate, and sustain community programs throughout Playa del Carmen and The Riviera Maya. With Playa del Carmen’s unique backdrop of the Caribbean Ocean, the unique flavors of fresh Mexican ingredients, and the unbridled talent of international chefs based in the Riviera Maya, this event is certainly not one to miss!

With the cooperation of over 24 volunteers, an Executive Committee of 8 local business owners, the City of Playa del Carmen, and its mayoral offices, along with the State Tourism Board, the Taste of Playa will grow into an international affair parallel to no other. With the launch of the 1st Annual Sampling September 5, 2009, in the newly refurbished Parque Fundadores, all participants are working together to honor the diversity of this one-of-a-kind area and celebrate the roots and culture of the Riviera Maya and Mexico.
