by JP the Editor Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen announces the start of a New Community Center in the Elijido Rotary Club has announced that a new Community Center will be built in the Colonia Hidal on 4th and 130th Street. It will have Classrooms, Computers, and more for the benefit of the community. The new Community Center will be built from donations within the community, rotary clubs from around the world, and from all our leaders in business so that the underprivileged can enjoy the fruits of the success of our community. The land has already been purchased and the construction will be made with matching grants from other Rotary Clubs in Florida and Colorado. “It is our # 1 focus right now and has been a dream for us for over 2 years now. We will supervise the construction and coordinate all contractors. “We think it will take about 1.5 years to complete. It really depends when we money donated.” Club Secretary Peniche says.
In addition to our community project, we are part of a global program started in 1985 by International Rotary Club President Dr. Carlos Conseco from Monterrey Mexico to eradicate Polio. In almost 20 years, we are on the cusp of success – it is a tremendous source of pride for us. The Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen is made up of local business leaders from Contractors, Attorneys, Executives, Managers, Doctors, and more……..it has been in Playa del Carmen since 1992. Created in 1905 by a man in Chicago, Rotary now has thousands of chapters throughout the world.
To join Rotary, you simply need to be invited by a Rotarian and you need to provide the organization with a service or profession that is currently not provided by another. “One must be a leader, care about the community, and love what you do. It is a nice thing to help others who are not as fortunate.” Peniche explains. “For example, we helped a child who has a tumor in his eye. He lives 3 hours into the jungle and we were in the process of getting him to a hospital in Merida to get the operation. A Rotarian from Canada went with us to that town and he paid for the complete operation. “Incredible! It makes all things worth it”. Peniche says with great pride On behalf of our current President Rafael Castro, I would like to invite leaders in the community to reach out and assist on doing good. Please come visit us at our weekly meetings” Peniche exclaims. The Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at 9:15pm at the Continental Hotel in Phase 1 of PlayaCar.
