The Tequila Barrel won our Best of the Best Contest for the month of January for The Best Local Watering Hole. The Playa Maya News team will be there to present the award and to join the Tequila Barrrel crew for some cool brews and some all around fun!

For the past 70 years Mexico has prohibited the sale of alcohol up to 48 hours prior and 24 hours after a major election. On February 6th, 2005 there are elections to be held for the Mayor (Presidente Municipal) and it is a national election. Usually this is not that major of an issue, but this year’s election’s falls on both, Super Bowl Sunday and Carnaval. Although Super Bowl Sunday cannot be changed, Cozumel has chosen to change its carnival celebration to the following week.

A sad day for family and friends.....
As most of you already know, there were 3 men who were injured in the Sol Maya Fire that occurred on Monday, December 27th, at the Sol Maya Condominium Complex, located in Playa del Carmen. All 3 men were severely injured, but Pablo Max Balam suffered the most, due to burned corneas. On Thursday January 13th, Pablo passed away due to health complications caused by the fire...
