Om Tulum Hotel Cabanas and Beach Club By Susan De Lima Imagine a tranquil garden, the blue Caribbean Sea and an amazing beach as far as you can see all in a relaxing, lounge atmosphere. Welcome to Om Tulum Hotel Cabanas and Beach Club. It faces the east where the sun greets us every morning; it is a place of illumination. The east is known for new beginnings and understanding. Tulum is a place where people go to relax, reflect and release. From the moment you pass through the gate and hear the water fall, which is watched over by a serene Buddha, you know you are in a state of lush tranquility. The inauguration celebration took place underneath a full moon November 2007. With well over 600 guests in attendance, it was a party one would not soon forget. Guests, both local and foreign, arrived from all parts of the world. DJ Roby, a special guest from Italy, spun till the wee hours and special dancers and acrobats entertained the crowd. For those of you who do not know, and have not been to Playa del Carmen, the original OM is based in Playa del Carmen on 12th Street and Primera Privada. It is a funky, energetic bar in the hub of Playa del Carmen. Through my interview with one of the owners, Angelo Minos, I discovered that the owners decided to purchase this property to create a lounge atmosphere in a hotel and beach club that was fitting of Tulum. Thus, nestled in swaying palm trees are 9 cabanas where you can listen to the ocean and relax. There is also a main cabana with a restaurant and bar overlooking the ocean. The following day, or for many continuing night, the beach club was inaugurated on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Many came out to laze underneath a palapa to have a drink or a bite to eat. The menu is Caribbean Seafood style and the beach club is open for breakfast at 8:00 AM and closes at 2:00 AM.
