So Playa Maya News decided to put a different spin on things as we enter into the new year of 2005. The Playa Maya News crew hit the streets and asked local community members what their goals were for the new year and what they were most grateful for and here are some of their answers...... What are your goals for this year? ………….. What are you grateful for? Robert Birce, Owner Alma Libre Books Personal Goal: To take the time to more thoroughly enjoy the beautiful area I live in. Most grateful for: I am grateful for so many things. Topping the list are good friends, good books and the ability to get Moosehead cerveza in Mexico. Challis Moore, Cozumel Living Real Estate Personal Goal: To treat myself better. Take better care of my body, eat better, exercise, and spend more time at the beach! Most grateful for: Finding the love of my life in 2004. Arielle Newman, Yoga by the Sea Vacations Personal goal: to spend more time reflecting, writing, and painting. Most grateful for: my husband Don and the opportunity I’ve had to love big and be loved back. Brian Borjesson, Head Bombero, Playa del Carmen (Fire Chief) Personal goal: Start construction of the Fire Fighters school here in Playa. Most grateful for: The good Lords love and our grandchildren. Playa Maya News Web Girl, Personal Goal: Well, I have many: learn more Spanish, go on a 10 week volunteer expedition with GVI, continue to work for non profits locally, could use to lose a few pounds, and those are just a few. Most grateful for: Living near the Caribbean, being able to swim in cenotes, having my health improve since I moved to Mexico, being married to my best friend, and having fresh mangos to eat, they are my favorite! Jersy Augustyniak, PMN Cozumel sales manager and owner Sea Urchin Dive Personal goal: I have to admit that I haven't really thought about that as often as should have. It easy to just take things for granted and not take the time to look back and really think about what's really important to you and what things in your life you should not just take for granted. My personal goal is to keep doing whatever it takes to make my dream of continuing to live on this tropical island a reality and to take time to "smell the roses". I finally realized that if you don't take time to "smell the roses" than what's the point of all of this? Most grateful for: Well after taking the time to really think about it, there are so many things; it's hard to know where to start. I wrote down a list and was amazed at how fortunate I have been. I'm sure that if you take some time and do the same, it will help you to appreciate all the little things in life that have been so easily taken for granted. First of all, I am most grateful for having a loving wife who has always been there to support me in all of my endeavors and who has done an outstanding job raising our three children; Josh, George and Samantha. I can't imagine what my life would have been like without her. In fact she is the one responsible for giving me the push to come out here and pursue the dream. I am also grateful for having three fantastic children that help to make my life feel complete and that my mother is still with us and healthy at the age of ninety three. The next most important thing that I am grateful for, is having met so many wonderful people and made so many new friends while I have been here. I did not expect to have become friends with so many new people at this point in my life. I really was quite surprised at how I was made to feel at home and welcomed as a new member of the community. I enjoy living here and am really grateful to have found a place where there are so many fantastic people that are willing to help and support you. I wish you all the best for this new year and all the years that follow. Suzanne Bandick Personal goal: Spend more time at the beach just contemplating my navel and publish one of my books. Most grateful for: My health, my husband, my kids (even when they make me nuts) and ice cream. Sue Heart, owner of a Pilates studio and writer for PMN Personal Goal: I want to find my peace and happiness within. Being up in cold New York constantly brings me to beautiful Playa. I want to make Playa my home, but what does a girl do to make a living. It's that scary thought of not knowing. Most grateful for: I am so thankful for all the wonderful people who have entered my life, especially in the past few years. I have so many wonderful friends in Playa. They all have helped me to feel safe and welcome. I want to have them as my neighbors and friends for as long as Playa remains Playa; our wonderland/play land.

We all seem to pressure ourselves into making some unrealisitic resolution for the New Year. Whether it is to lose 100 pounds or to never have another beer again, it seems like we may set ourselves up to fail. And then of course we feel GUILT!
