No Beer Super Bowl Sunday?
Ley Seca or Dry Law to be in affect Saturday, February 2nd and Sunday, Febraruy 3rd 2008!
For the past 70 years Mexico has prohibited the sale of
alcohol up to 48 hours prior and 24 hours after a major election. On
February 3rd, 2008 there are elections to be held for the
Mayor (Presidente Municipal) and it is a national election. Usually
this is not that major of an issue, but this year’s election’s falls on Super Bowl Sunday.
In Playa del Carmen the dry law will be in affect during Saturday, Febraury 2nd and Super Bowl Sunday, but from what we have been told, over the counter liquor sales end today Friday, February 1st at 11:30 PM and ill go through Monday, February 4th, 2008. Most bars and restaurnats have licenses to serve beer and cocktails with a food order, but Mexican Nationals will not be served. So if you are planning on watching the big game at a friends we suggest you buy your beer this afternoon!
