Hurricane Wilma

I WANT MY MTV!

As the town of Playa del Carmen got ready for its biggest media and hollywood frenzy, AKA MTVLA, Wilma was quietly becoming a force to be wreckoned with. She is quiet no more, and has developed into a Category 5 hurricane causing local officals to post a hurricane warning for the Yucatan, and cancel the biggest event to come to our area.

Although the strike probability is only at 20%, and it is still another 24 hours away, local areas are sure to experience outlying effects regardless if Wilma makes a direct hit. Weather experts expect to see upwards of 12 inches of rain in, and around, Playa del Carmen. If Emily has taught us anything, as well as the catastrophic effects of Katrina, it is to be prepared. Make sure you have ample water, non-perishable foods, flahlights, and candles. And in the event of an evacuation, have a plan prepared for you and your family. Here are a few websites that have up to date and reliable information. We will post more information as it becomes available.

This just in (3:10 Wednesday): ALL schools in , and classes in Playa del Carmen, have been closed or cancelled until further notice. Ports will close by 7:00 PM tonight, and official evacuatin notices have been issued for Isla Mujeres and Holbox
