Playa Mamitas DancerBy Kristin Hahn

Amazing dancers, purification ceremonies, ambient trance music, the Spanish version of Tainted Love, and a cool crowd, all with the Caribbean Sea, as a background….Could it get any better? I don’t think so.
This happened last night at Mamitas Beach, in Playa del Carmen, and it was a blast!  An incredible evening of live entertainment, with an enthusiastic crowd, only added to the great atmosphere. The show opened with a Mayan purification ceremony, lead by a Mayan Shaman, then Jorge Reyes came on with his mellow ethereal sounds, when the Aztec dancers burst onto the stage for a sheer sensorial delight! Finally La Union, a Spanish pop/ rock band, with lead man, Rafael Sanchez, rocked the house. From "Tainted Love" to original licks, they left the crowd bopping into the night, and once again, another “never forget moment“was made in Playa del Carmen. If you missed it, be sorry that you did, if you were there, I hope you had as much fun as I did, but either way check out the cool photos below!

La Union: A Brief Biography

Spanish pop/rock band La Unión got involved in the local scene in the early '80s. Singer Rafael Sánchez, bass player Luis Bolín, guitarist Mario Martínez, and keyboardist Iñigo Zabala hit the charts in 1984 with their song "Lobo Hombre en Paris," releasing Mil Siluetas that same year, produced by Mecano's Nacho Cano and followed by El Maldito Viento in 1985. Three years later the band self-produced Vivir Al Este del Eden. Around that same time, Iñigo Zabala decided to leave, turning the band into a three-piece act. While experimenting with its music, La Unión moved to England to work with Mike Howlet, recording Tentación. On October 19, 1991, at La Coruña, the group made the live recording Tren de Largo Recorrido, which compiled the band's best songs. In a new experimental experience, La Unión decided to make a record in the U.S. Psycofunkster Au Lait was produced by Stephan Galfas and issued in 1993. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide
