beachHurricane Ivan update as of 8 p.m.

We still are not seeing much here. Some people are heard to say it has passed us but I see on weather maps it is still close enough to give us some pretty bad weather if it turns.

The wave action has not changed much and we have had some mild wind and occasional spurts of rain.

There was no school today for local kids and there will be no school tomorrow. Safety first. The kids don't seem to mind.

Basically the Riviera Maya waits at ready. It looks like Ivan will have missed us but we may not be totally in the clear yet.

We have been receiving reader updates………

Just wanted to update you for the Tankah/Tulum area. As of 2 pm I was speaking to my manager while he was in Tankah and there was just a little rain and wind, some wave action. At that time it did not seem very bad. I also spoke to a friend who has a house in Puerto Morelos and she said everyone was evacuated and wave action was very high.

Please keep me updated as to the conditions in Playa del Carmen. I will check your wonderful website often. Let's hope IVAN leaves quickly.

Best regards,

Carole, Casa Tropical

Go to weatherunderground.com and then click on Hurricanes/tropical. There are all kinds of tracking maps etc. I am keeping watch since I have many friends there. Good luck to you all. It looks like you are going to be fine.
