by JP the Editor After 30 days of ripping, tearing, destroying, and mangling, the workers for ARCO Paving Co are just about finished with putting in the new bone block street between 10th and 12th on 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen. According to Saul Perez de La Cruz, project site manager for ARCO, they will be finished and out of everyone’s hair by this Wednesday - April 7th. Stores have been flustered by the work done as it has stifled short term business action as tourists and visitors had to endure walking on dirt, rocks, and other sediments as workers did their best to make it as comfortable as possible. Nevertheless, it hurt as one local unnamed business owner described. “They could have waited until the low season for gosh sakes.” Patrons have also endured the pain as Flin Flom Al who drinks his coffee at Java Joe’s every morning says “Geez”. Jerry, a noted Town Historian, says "Playa has been through a million changes since I first started coming here in the dark ages and this is nothing............" De La Cruz says “…..the pain is worth it as the street now is just about ready for normal traffic again. In fact, the tourist experience will be even better now and the local business owners will be the beneficiaries.”
