Meet Marion Rock and Robert Mosl: owners of Dog Holiday, animal lovers, and world travelers Marion and Robert, originally from Austria, first came to Playa del Carmen on a holiday in 1999. They often traveled outside of Austria during the cold season in search of warm weather, and that is how they came across Playa del Carmen. They owned a live music venue for years in Austria, and often friends that would come through traveling would have them care for their animals, and they always had their own menagerie as well. In 2003, they decided to give Mexico a try as year round residents, and originally lived in Acapulco. After 6 months they knew that Acapulco was not the right fit, and they landed here in Playa del Carmen in September 2003. They had always had the idea of doing a boarding kennel business as they were very popular in Europe as well as in the US, and Canada, and it fit in with their love of animals. They first wanted to get established here in Playa del Carmen, and see if there was a need for a local boarding kennel in the community. For years they worked locally, Marion was involved in a jewelry business in Cozumel, and Robert as an underwater videographer specializing in cenote diving. In the meantime they added to their own brood, and currently have 5 dogs of their own. There is Claude the Rottweiler, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Simba, Ray the Chihuahua, Jackie the cenote dog, and Emily who they rescued after Hurricane Emily in 2005. A year ago they decided to make the leap, and opened Dog Holiday in El Ejido; a beautiful and expansive space that has over 1200 square meters of play space, and 19 spacious rooms to accommodate pets for either days or months. They offer day care, boarding, obedience courses, and "spaw" treatments with specialty bathing options. They have an on call vet 24 hours a day, and if you have your pet boarding there they will also have all of your vet's information on hand. The kennel is supervised 24 hours a day, and the daily rates include walking, brushing, outdoor-fun, and plenty of personal attention. Although they focus mainly on dogs, they also have a kitty room, an iguana cage, and have watched everything from hamsters to fish!
