The annual Riviera Maya Jazz Festival is just around the corner. It will be held at Mamita's Beach in Playa del Carmen, which is located on 28th Stree and the beach. Gates open daily at 6:00 PM and entrance is free! For more details on artists and groups please read more below.....

Jose Antonio (Pepe) Morán Mercado was born in Mexico City and started studying piano under the direction of Leopoldo Gonzalez Blasco at
the age of 8. His father, Cecilio "Chilo" Morán, one of the best jazz
trumpet players in Mexico, shared his love for music and gives him his
first lessons.
By the end of the 90's, Pepe had generated a strong array of works especially in jazz and classical areas.
Pepe Morán has performed in latter years in some of the most recognized
concert halls in Mexico and national jazz festivals.

Beaujean Project arises
as a new concept of music that assembles young women with great talent,
led by Ingrid and Jennifer who have gained a very good reputation thanks
to their impressive and melodic voices.
This band, based in Mexico City, moved by the need to
create new music without genre. Ingrid and Jennifer
have the idea that all the music they listen to influences them, and gives them tools to
develop a fun fusion of music and style. |

This local Playa del Carmen group, is on their 5th year of hosting the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival.
Led by drummer Fernando Toussaint, this group mixes sounds of jazz,
funk and rock to create an original digest. With Enrique Pat on
keyboards, Bernardo Ron on guitar and Luis Ernesto Lopez on bass, they
have recoded two CD´s with guests artists such as Sabo Romo, Natalia
Lafourcade, Diego Maroto and Eugenio Toussaint.They will be playing new material from their upcoming third album. |

Héctor Infanzón's compositions incorporate many different styles of
music which has influenced his work; this is what has made his playing
really versatile and at the same time avoiding any style
classification.
Héctor Infanzón has received postive critique
worldwide; his group executes original compositions of the
highest quality. |

Iraida Noriega began singing with her father, pianist and singer Freddy
Noriega. She studied in New York with Sheila Jordan, Mimi Daitz and Bob
Norton. Then continued her vocal training with Ricardo Sánchez. Iraida
has released the following CD's: Efecto Mariposa (2001), Viaje de Mar
(2003), Soliluna with singer Magos Herrera (2006) and Así era Entonces…
Ahora with Zinco Big Band (2006).
She is currently working on her next CD with pianist
Nicolas Santella, Israel Cupich on double bass, Tavo Nandayapa on
Drums, Miguel Alcérreca on vibes and vocalists Paulina Fuentes and
Tania Guzman. Iraida is considered one of the best jazz
singers in Mexico.
She has a unique voice, and through her compositions and
arrangements she brings together a variety of musical and literary
backgrounds in her own intense and personal way. |

Luca Littera is one of this rare musicians professionally dedicated to the classical repertoire of harmonica.
Born in Rome in 1962, he started his viola career in 1974. He is dedicated to the study of the chromatic harmonica , and is one of the few soloists of this instrument in the
world, performing between classical and jazz repertoires. |

Sacbé is one of the most important bands in the Mexican contemporary
Jazz scene. Founded in 1976 by the Toussaint brothers: Eugenio (piano),
Enrique (electric bass) and Fernando (drums). The band has performed together since
1977, a selection of pieces that has positioned them as one of the
foremost contemporary jazz bands in Mexico. To celebrate their 30th
anniversary Sacbé interprets those pieces that have positioned the band
as a spearhead of Mexican contemporary jazz. They are part of an
important music movement combining their music with
a Latin American and personal identity. The concept underneath the work
of the group is a reflection of contemporary music without an
approach to a particular Folkloric or Latino jazz style. Sacbé mixes
all kinds of influences that span African, Asian, Brazilian and Mexican
music, as well as rock and jazz. Recently the Toussaint brothers
represented Mexico in the 29th edition of the Montreal Jazz Festival
with incredible success. |

Having worked next to musicians like: Horace Silver, Junior Mance,
George Benson, Kenny Burble, Stanley Turrentine, Randy Brecker, Michael
Brecker, John Abercrombie, Freddie Hubbard, Don Grolnick, Esther
Phillips and others, it was inevitable that Miles Davis, always worry
and seeking for talented young men for his projects, found him.
Cobham also worked with John McLaughlin from 1971 until 1973 in the group "Mahavishnu Orchestra".
Billy Cobham, was one of the first drummers who could bring together
the paces of rock with the jazz polirritmic, along with Tony Williams and Jack DeJohnette, they created a new style in jazz drumming
that has many followers today. |

Fourplay whose current
lineup consists of keyboardist Bob James, bassist Nathan East,
guitarist Larry Carlton and drummer Harvey Mason, have enjoyed
consistent artistic and commercial success by grafting elements of
R&B and pop to their unwavering jazz foundations. In a span of
seventeen years and ten albums, the quartet has continued to explore
the limitless dimensions and permutations of jazz while at the same
time appealing to a broad mainstream audience |
