Fernanado Toussaint

Fernando Toussaint

Fernando is one of our best loved jazz musicians and he is now organizer of the 2nd Annual Latin Riviera Maya Jazz Festival. He is actually in charge of all musical productions with the Riviera Maya Tourism Board.

If you love the music, it will live in you; it becomes a part of you .

Someone once said - The most important way to listen to jazz is to surrender yourself to the music. Let the music move you. Feel the waves of tension being built and released. If your feet are tapping that's a good start. If your eyes are closed and your face kinda scrunches up as the tension becomes unbearable on that last solo chorus before the outhead, then you're pretty much there.....

jazz festival posterFernando was born in Mexico City and has been a professional musician since 1974. He has 50 different albums of music out; 30 he produced. He also has his own recording studio.

Fernando has international experience. He spent 8 years in the states working with Paul Anka and many other top names. Then, he traveled to Europe and lived and worked there for five years: where he worked with Alejandro Sanz and Miguel Bose. He has spent time in Canada, Asia and Central and South America. Now, home is in the Riviera Maya and has been for about two and a half years; although he continues to travel regularly.

His band Palmera will be playing with him at the Jazz Festival. They also play for everyones enjoyment at Apasionado with all original material Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

What does Fernando want to achieve with this jazz festival? He tells us, “I want to show jazz can be fun. It is not just the men in black suits with ties. I want to showcase a new era of jazz”.

Who will we see? Fernando continues, “Quem will be here from Brazil, The George Duke Band is coming to Mexico for the first time for a real show, we have the Diego Maroto Sexteto coming to play for us in the middle of their world tour, as well as Apasionado and Junior from right here in Mexico.

Come and experience the life of Latin Jazz in Playa del Carmen! We invite you to feel the music.
