playa del carmen bar and night club jam session

A great live music venue in Playa del Carmen, The Jam Session,  is creating a hot spot for local and visiting musicians.

Two years ago, after many years in the music industry, first as a singer-musician in Mexico and Europe, then as Head of Record Production at CBS and RCA in Mexico City, and ten years as Vice-President at The Walt Disney Records and Publishing Company - Latin America Division, in Miami and L.A., Renato López realized that he’d had enough of the glitz and glamour. He missed his country, his family and friends, but most of all… he craved the simple life …and Mexican food!

The Mean Streets of Playa del CarmenIs there a Music Scene in Playa del Carmen?

A Hip Recording Studio, New Artist Hits the Mean Street, a Cannabis Song to stop Extradition of a Mom?  What!  Meet the Underground!

by Burleigh Sullivan

Among the tourist shops, hotels, cruise ships, and trinket shops, there is an underground scene that most people here in the Playa del Carmen know nothing about.

I know, I know……art makes no money and who wants to listen to indie music when you simply go into any major hotel and hear your favorite song from "Sweatin to the Oldies". I got that part!  So take a chill pill!

But seriously folks, there is a small but growing scene of mods, rockers, pop artists, and folksy transplants from places like Austin Texas, Las Vegas Nevada, New York City, Italy, Argentina, Europe, Canada, and more……did I mention Zimbabwe?  Yeah, we have one guy from there too……well thats what I heard anyway....

Jazz Festival brought culture and international musicians to Playa del Carmen.

The beginning - July 1976

Growing up in the Dutch City 'Den Haag', I was spoiled with the highly esteemed 'North Sea Jazz Festival' (NSJ). This 3 day Jazz festival started in 1976 with 300 musicians divided over 6 stages entertaining an audience of around 9000 jazz fans. It grew to be one of  the biggest indoor jazz festivals in the world. The North Sea Jzz Festival now features 1,200 musicians, divided over 15 stages performing 200 concerts to an estimated 70.000 people. Great jazz legends like Sarah Vaughan and Stan Getz over the years gave way to artists like Miles Davis and Erykah Badu. I usually worked as a temp, obtaining much desired back stage passes eabling me to sneak into the jam sessions that started after the official concert and lasted well into the morning hours......

Famed Spanish Artist Elisa Miranda Celebrates a Playa de Carmen Showing of her lastest Creations

The joy of the Caribbean and the magical flavor of the “mojitos”, which transport those who drink them to the picturesque streets of the Old Havana quarter, come to life with the smell of tobacco which seems to dance to the rhythm of the warmed Playa del Carmen rain –

this is the wonderful feeling garnered from the exquisite reception of friends, specials guests, and fans who were at the La Bodeguita del Medio, Playa del Carmen’s most unique Cuban style restaurant where, the who’s who of our community received the Spanish Artist - Elisa Miranda de duBaele - and her lovely exhibition of art and expresssion.
