Mojo Zone Recording Studios in Playa Makes the Grady The Tamále Sessions hit the streets and Playa del Carmen will never be the same. Okay, you’ve asked where’s the music scene? Well, tonite at Captain Dave’s Bar, Mojo Zone Recording Studio - Playa del Carmen’s leading recording studio that opened in February, hosted a CD Release Party for Grady’s new release titled The Tamale Sessions. Grady, a well traveled and experienced musician came to Playa del Carmen 4 ½ years ago for a two week gig and never left. With influences best described as Louisana Cajun Country Blues, Grady’s played worldwide with the best musicians in his genre and ended up in Playa as a matter of happenstance and destiny.
But first they needed a recording studio, so the trio of businessmen opened up Mojo Zone Recording Studios on 5th Avenue behind The Tequila Barrel. Recorded in 6 weeks with the help of local musicians and bands eg... Chivo Azul, Playa's local Mexican blues band and the guitar of Emiliano Juarez, Grady put down 8 original compositions out of 9 on the album. “It’s great. A victory for Grady, Music, and Playa del Carmen” says a soulful Edie Borjesson who doubles as Gradys PR Manager and a local entrepreneur who’s married to Brian Borjesson, the head of the local Fire Department – the Bomberos. “Get your Grady CD. More Beer!” she says with a smile.
At the bar with a brew in hand and cigar burning with the scent of success, Brad Ryan says “Mojo Zone is ready for business to help local artists get their foothold commercially in the marketplace. Our scene is weird. I’ve been here for over 10 years and musically we’ve regressed. 10 years ago, artists made a living. Now, it’s tougher because original art lost it’s ground to cover bands and disco nightclubs……..especially since the local government instituted it's decibel restrictions but yet allows recorded music to blast and limits live stuff……..it’s a bit nerving eh" says the Canadian transplant. "But we’re raging back. Right now, singer songwriters have an edge because they can play small venues and clubs. However, heavy bands with loud sound don’t really have a place to play except with festivals come to town”.
Hopefully, there will be a live club opening soon that will have the rights to open up the scene for artists. It will happen! I mean look at the growth here…….it has to happen.” With Grady’s CD, we expect to sell about 2,000 units and that’s a great thing for Playa del Carmen. It’s a great start for all of us” says Brad.
