When you look into Ivette Olivares paintings you walk into a magical and surreal world. Her art is so full of such vibrant colors that suddenly the world becomes more alive. You may ask yourself if you have you been asleep until now. The most fantastic dreams we had as children always become dull at the moment of recalling them in the morning. How hard it is to describe how real it was. Perhaps due to this Ivette Olivares art looks so familiar to us....................
..... as if at last we could share under full daylight those envisions that entertain us in the most secret corners of a dream. picture -HADA DE AGUA(water fairy) A world that doesn’t exist. Pure fantasy. Ivette surprises us in the same manner as a child with the power we have lost so long ago; that of spending hours absorbed in an invented world with no further resource than an object found in a garden or in any other nook of a grandparents home. Picture - NIÑOS COSMICOS (COSMIC CHILDREN)-THIS PAINTING IS ABOUT A YOUNG COUPLE THAT ARE IN LOVE, BUT THEY ARE STILL IN THE STAGE OF THE SHYNESS OF THE RELATIONSHIP. SHE WANTS TO GIVE HIM THE MOON AND HE WANTS TO CATCH HER WITH THE FISH NET BUT IT’S AN AWKWARD SITUATION AS THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO BREAK THE ICE........ Ivette was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. She has a bachelor’s degree in art – specializing in painting from the University of Monterrey; but as is the case with true art it has to come from the heart as well as life experience. Picture - El Meterito (The Meteor) - A comet flies into the window and disturbs 2 sisters enjoying a bowl of fruits. They are shocked. It turns out she has had many life experiences as she started traveling at the age of 14. Her parents sent her for one year in Ireland followed by one year in England to learn English. She has also traveled throughout Europe and feels this exposure to Europe shows up often in her work. As an adult she lived in New York for 3 years. Ivette says “New York was not the place for me. I wanted a more spiritual place. I came to Playa del Carmen originally for 3 months to work”. What surprised her was the fact she has now been here 1 year and 18 months and did not even realize it! She adds “I became inspired”. Picture - Fairy with Budgie – this is a recovery of innocence in a world that does not exist. It shows a state of mind. Ivette started with sculpture but fell in love with painting because for her it is powerful and she loves the visual effect you can attain with oils. She has been painting and earning her living from those paintings since she was 20; that is 14 years now. She has sold over 300 pieces which is pretty well everything she has ever created. What about inspiration? It always seems to come as her idea of a break from art is 2 days off. Now that is a passion found.
“My art is from my imagination world. I wish a world full of love and no fear and to recover innocence.”
Small paintings sell for $500 USD and larger for up to $5,000 USD. What is in the future? More art of course! “I would like to be able to display my work in a local gallery, even a rotating show but there is not much opportunity for that here.” Ivette continues “I would also like to have an exhibition in California of all my previous art but I will have to recover the pieces and that will take time”. You will find Ivette Olivares work on display and for sale in the Trajan Gallery in Carmel, California and in the Arte Actual Mexicano Gallery in Monterrey, Mexico.
