Abba to Zappa in Playa del Carmen

From Abba to Zappa in Playa del Carmen March 3rd, 2010.

Enjoy an evening of live music with award winning Swedish musician Tommy Körberg with Max Schulta and Johan Liljedahl. This unique evening of music is brought to you by the Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen District 4200, and a chapter of the Swedish Rotary Club of Markaryd District 2400, and is a fundraising event for the Rotary Education Project in Playa del Carmen.

Tommy Körberg is a Swedish singer, actor, and musician. In 1969, he won a Swedish Recording Industry Award for best debut performance, and he is well-known to English speaking audiences for his role in the Tim Rice musical Chess. He was the first to play the role of “The Russian” on the 1984 concept album Chess, and performed the same role on stage in a West End production in London which earned him a nomination for a Laurence Olivier Award.

He represented Sweden in the 1969 and 1988 Eurovision Song Contests, and in the 1990’s and 2000’s he took time off from other projects to resurrect his role in Chess. He has also been involved in other Swedish productions of the famous musicals: The Sound of Music, and Les Miserables, and he voiced the Beast in the Swedish Dub of Beauty and the Beast and sung the title track as well.

This will be Tommy’s 3rd concert benefiting the Rotary Education Project in Playa del Carmen; the first two were performed in Sweden, but this will be his first performance in Playa del Carmen. The concert will be held at 8:00 PM on March 3rd, 2010 at the Royal Hideaway, and tickets are $50.00 USD per person. Tickets are available to purchase at La Rana Cansada, located on 10th Street between 5th and 10th Avenue and The Royal Hideaway.
