Mad Warriorby Angela Durante

Assertive, Fierce and Tender, Fine as the PlayaMaya Sand, and yet hard as a Mayan Warrior´s Shield, the paintings of Jaime Fierro emit a light of power and emotion that is filled with a loveable smile and an under current of pain, suffering, with a heartfelt humanity that bleeds with the bitterness of life – yes, this is Jaime Fierro. He feels, he desires, he inspires, and he paints!

Born in the Temuco region of Chile on July, 16th 1945, Jaime Fierro was born with a paint brush for an arm. His natural disposition spoke to him early in life – painting the colors of youth.

As a matter of life and breathing, the wind came and took him on a journey of discovery through the shades of the Americas. On a cloud, he traveled and lived in Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, and finally to Brazil where his family settled.

studio 1“I absorbed the cultures, how people lived, and it got into my skin” the master says with the wave of his arms. “I absorbed, I felt, I lived and it ended up on my canvass”.

In Playa del Carmen, Jaime Fierro with his manager, Inez show and sell his works at his extensive and open to the public gallery located on 5th Avenue.

Jaime uses his training that he received at the Belle D”Artes in Santiago Chile, as the basis to show his work and share it with the public.” says the proud Inez who has been working with the artist since he came to Playa.

“The commercial art market in Playa del Carmen is excellent” Inez says.

“We get so many people into the gallery who are just in awe of the master´s work…..and really admire. hey love talking to Jaime. You know he is here painting everyday. He is a prolific painter. He cannot stop. His discipline is strong. They love to come and watch him create.” Inez says with joy.

Inez explains “Our clients come from all over the world to buy his art - Italians, French, Canadians, Americans, Australians, and more……a true cosmopolitan mix.”

Signature“If they do not buy now, they call or come back and buy. They remember his work and it sticks with them. His work is addictive.” says Victor, a wily and wonderful friend who is visiting from Mexico City.

“Professionally, Playa is a great place to be and is growing in art appreciation everyday. It truly is an artisans paradise. And the commercial aspect is getting even bigger” Jaime tells.

“For example, Harley Davidson came to our gallery to have the art appear on their jackets. Grand Mariner, that wonderful liquor company, is also thinking about placing the artwork on their packages.

JaimeLater in July, Jaime is going to Canada for 2 months to show his works in the great halls – and paint his visions of Canada.

“Respect and appreciation of his work is what feeds and encourages him to pursue more. His experiences of childhood, the call to an artists life, and finding a way of expressing, while feeling his heritage is what Jaime is all about” says Victor.

During his decades of painting, Jaime has developed and applied the Acquarella Technique. It is a style that signatures his paintings.

For now, Jaime has taken the wind to the PlayaMaya and luckily for us, the weather is calm and we can delight in the faces, feelings, and fierceness that is the paintings of Jaime Fierro.
