Okay, I am always hearing people tell me that we need more cultural events, and things to do, rather then going out to bars. On March 25th at Los Carboncitos you can do just that. There will be an art opening for 3 local artists, and it is sure to be an enjoyable evening.

Well, what do a young single mom from Philadelphia, an established artist from Quebec, and a mural and caricature artist form Mexico City have in common? ART! These 3 artists have come together to do an art show to showcase their eclectic array of artistic styles and varied mediums.

Whitney Heimlich

Whitney has been visiting the Playa del Carmen for the past 3 years, and moved here just last year. She is originally from Pennsylvania, and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Although portraiture has been her focus in the past, she has broadened her artistic horizons since moving here to Playa del Carmen. She uses a variety of mediums ranging from oil, and acrylic to pencil and charcoal. In addition, she has found a new passion in photography. Her focus is to return to the natural aspect of Mexico, and portray that in her art. Whitney is planning on returning home at the end of March, with her son Samuel,  to enroll in a paramedic program in the United States. So this will be your only opportunity to see her work for quite some time.

Andre Gonzalez Hernandez

Originally from Mexico City, Andre has been in Playa del Carmen for the past 2 ½ years. At 25 he has been drawing and doing art since he was in his early teens. Since moving here he has focused on caricatures for the tourist population. His main medium is charcoal, but he also has done wall murals around Playa del Carmen. You can see some of his wall art at La Jarra on 10th Avenue between 10th and 12th Street, or on 5th Avenue on the corner of 6th Street.

 Clo Ste. Marie

Clo has been coming to spend winters in Playa del Carmen, from her home in Canada, for the past 2 years. She embraces the Caribbean life, and enjoys the warmth of the tropics, and spends time with her family, and her art. Clo;s work is inspired by, revealing sensuality and feminine curves. The simplicity illustrated through her fluid shapes is an expression of naturalness and spontaneity, and combines two intuitive artistic approaches. One is inspired by her love for circus art, dance, and the stunning dynamics of urban life, and the other, by her desire to return to the source - nature, children, life... Her versatility and her talent have been proven in many artistic fields. After studying in computer graphics and advertising illustration, she acted as a scenic painter and sculptor in theatre and film productions, and as a designer and wall painter in the interior design field.

So come on down to Los Carboncitos on, Friday, March 25th, from 5:00-7:00 PM, and it is sure to be an enjoyable evening. Los Carboncitos is located on 4th Street between 5th and 10th Avenue.
