Armando Martinez is originally from Mexico City, but in 2004 he decided to move his family to Playa del Carmen. He, like so many of us, was looking for a better quality of life, and the Riviera Maya was the perfect fit offering a more laid back lifestyle, better job opportunities, all in the beautiful surroundings of the Caribbean. Armando also saw an opportunity to bring much needed culture and art to the area, and has enjoyed the challenge. As a child Armando was always creative and artistic, and through the support of his family he was able to go onto attend the Escuela INBA “La Esmeralda” where he earned a 5 year degree in the Visual Arts. His passion is painting, but he is trained in the fine art of murals as well as decorative art for local area hotels. His work can be seen locally in Mayakoba, Valentin, Vista Real Spa, Casona, and Banamex, and he has had private showings locally as well as throughout Mexico. When working on larger projects he works with a talented group of local artists, but his paintings are his and his alone.
When asked what he wants to “say” or “express” with his art he explains that painting is poetry and music to him creating color through his internal music and form with his poetry. He later describes that he brings together his intellectual side to his feeling side, and this is how he creates. You can see that passion in his paintings and the dedication to his art form shines through. You can see him and his work every Thursday evening from 5:00 PM- 10:00 PM at Caminarte; the weekly art walk located on 5th Avenue between Constituyentes. We encourage you to go and meet him and experience his art up close and personal, and we guarantee you will appreciate his raw talent.
